Nope......haven't heard anything. Will let you know if I do.

Last I heard, and it changes often, if you passed the Oral Board you should be receiving a phone call from the Cheif sometime after the first of the year. I'm sure it won't be immediately after the new year, they prolly have budget issues to work out or something. How is the process going for everyone?

jrhodes
12-21-2006, 12:43 AM
sgtsavage, are you going through this process also? I thought we were suppose to find out through the mail after our oral boards, but a call is fine too, just anxious to hear to see if I passed or not. Hopefully we will hear at the beginning of the year, good luck!

I'm in the process and still waiting news. I was told at the oral board they would send out letters before the end of the year, however, when I spoke with civil service to change my address, I was told I would receive a call sometime after the first of the year, not a letter. Its hard to be left hanging, but hey, thats how it goes in this business.

If I find anyhting out on the "Offical level" I'll let you all know. The last word we got was that MAYBE Mid- March.

Thank you for your replies. Hopefully it won't be too long after the new year before we hear, getting pretty anxious here.

Acegta-was the mid-March when they're going to let us know, or when the academy is going to start? Thanks.

acegta2002
12-29-2006, 05:25 PM
Sorry folks just catching up.
I love working here at the PD. I try to remember that no matter how bad it seems to be, EVERY PLACE has their own problems.

Mid March was supposed to start the Academy. I haven't been back to work yet to actually try and find out the "final" verdict.

acegta2002, thanks for all your help. any rumors floating around on how many they plan to hire? i was told 30, but i'm not sure if that has changed as well. hopefully all of us will be working together in the near future.

acegta2002

30 is the number I heard most thrown around, but as anything else that is subject to change. If I find out anything I'll let all of you know.

acegta2002
01-29-2007, 05:08 PM
I talked to someone in the police personel side of things. He said the City was going for May or June. Unfortunately I didn't read this until after I talked to him, I'll check on getting an answer as far as the oral boards for ya.
Sorry.

jrhodes
01-29-2007, 05:45 PM
thank you, i appreciate all your help. Like I said, I'm just more curious as to finding out whether I passed and am going on or not, not too concerned with the academy starting right away may or june might let me squeeze another quarter of school in before, so that would work out nice actually. Again, thanks for your help

sgtsavage, what made you look here coming from ny? family or anything in particular?
also, minus this last waiting on the oral boards the process has been really smooth and fast. being my first one, i expected it to drag out, and it's been great, and even today they call in the morning telling me sometime next week i'll hear from civil service about the psych and physical, then hear tonigth and it's already set up, it's great. anything we need to know about the psych in particular? thanks and good luck to everyone

I used to live in dayton when I was younger and Im sick of NY, its too liberal, taxes are too high, and getting a police job is tough as nails, unless you're a minority, which I am not. Any ways, I hope we find out how we do on these next few steps a little quicker than the boards. Good luck with your psych, let me know how it goes.

jrhodes
02-09-2007, 04:40 PM

anything i need to know for the physical? whats involved? treadmill test?

jrhodes
03-06-2007, 10:06 PM
first thing they did was the stress test (treadmill test). After that it's the usual, blood, vision, hearing, all that stuff. Also have the pulmonary function test (lung test thing where you blow into the machine). That gave me trouble, had to go back and retest, took me like 8 tries but i finally got a good enough reading. Weird cause I have great lungs and killed the treadmill test and everythign, guess I just don't have very big lungs, but I passed it. Good luck and hopefully you hear soon on getting the physical. Then hopefully we hear soon about whether we made it or not, don't care wehn the academy is, jsut want to find out and start looking for housing and all that.

sgtsavage
03-07-2007, 07:25 PM
yeah that pulmanary blowing thing is tough. i had to do that for my current job so i can wear a respirator, my diapragm was burning up after that. how long do you have to run on the treadmill? or how fast? never had to do a treadmill test. hopefully i can get in soon and get it over with. good luck on your search for a home in dayton, not a whole lot of options. heres a tip tho, my polygrapher told me to call 333-cops to find out if an address was really in the dayton limits. thats the non emergency number, just tell em your a police recruit and they'll understand.

jrhodes
03-07-2007, 08:35 PM
you go til your heart rate hits 180 if i remember right, so just depends. average is like 8-12 minutes i think is what he told me. unfortunately being young and in shape, i was on it for like 17 minutes til my heart rate got high enough. it gets faster and goes more uphill the longer you are on. i was told about that number also to check and make sure. not gonna start looking yet, wanna make sure im in first, so hopefully we wont have to wait too long after everyone does their stuff. good luck

acegta2002
03-07-2007, 10:36 PM
If ya'll get close to looking for housing let me know. I'll check the address to veriffy that it is in the city. I don't want someone getting wrong information, because the city does investigate residency.
Helpfull hints:
Start in the Belmont area, lower priced older home in a well established area.
If you want "COPLAND" theya re a bit on the high price side, because you live in Dayton but can send your children to Huber Heights or Riverside schools, depending on the location.

sgtsavage
03-08-2007, 09:29 AM
haha, i grew up in Copland, over off of kitridge, before i moved to ny. it was a great area to grow up. i imagine its still as nice, but def on the pricier side. im over in the belmont area now, cheap rent and the quitest community in dayton that i could find.

my pysch test results came in, and apparently i am just crazy enough to be a cop. i have to go fill out my paper work today and my physical is next week.

jrhodes
03-30-2007, 04:03 PM
i think i've finally completed everything. I had to get a few things redone from physical, but last thing was my eyes rechecked, which i went back this week and passed that. I called civil service a little bit ago to check see if stuff was sent over and make sure there isnt anythign else i needed to do cause last time medwork didnt tell me i needed to do that for my eyes. Anyways, i was told once you are cleared by civil service, which at least for me once they receive that about my vision since i passed that they send a letter over to detective saying you've been cleared, then the detective will call you and tell you you are accepted and give a tentative date. So hopefully we'll be hearing soon.

acegta2002
04-06-2007, 02:31 PM
The key here is " tentative date of 14 may". That's better than what Ive heard, "sometime in May".
JRhodes are you still going to take the Cincinnati test?

jrhodes
04-06-2007, 04:10 PM
ya, first all he said was sometime mid may, but then did mention the 14th, so we'll see when we hear from someone from the academy. Either way hopefully it's not too far off. And I highly doubt I'll go take that test, no real reason to now.

anyone know where a good place to start looking for housing is. I heard north area towards huber heights is good, but anyone have a good place to start? I'm looking for apartment/townhouse type thing, not a house as im young and no family. Gonna get out this week and start probably.

acegta2002
04-08-2007, 07:12 PM
My question is why would anyone want the SPOs for the academy?
You'll get them while in the academy and if you have them before hand (ImHo), it makes it harder. You are less likely to pay attention in class. Just my 2 cents.

udjoe24
04-09-2007, 06:03 PM

got the letter today. now gotta find some good boots and garrison belt and get that other stuff done. it says to wear appropriate business attire first day and there will be a follow up letter. if it doesnt specify i would assume that is suit and tie just as everything else, but i'll just call if it doesn't say to make sure.

Hey fellas, just found this forum. Looks like we're going to be in the same recruit class. Very excited to meet everyone and get this party started, as I am sure you are also.

In reference to the duty boots and garrison belt, I am wondering if the uniform shop in Vandalia will have that kind of stuff, or if we will have to purchase through Galls or Quartermaster or someplace like that.

Would anyone be interested in rooming together for the duration of the academy to save money on rent. If you are interested, please let me know and i'll give you my cell number to discuss it. There are several locations that i've found that would suit the residency requirement. Just meeting does not ensure that you have to room with me; just an option if you're wanting to save money on recruit salary.

Thanks
