This may sound like a weird question..but here it goes. Im a big fan of southern Rock...yep stuck in NY..But what I was curious about is if any of you Southern folks know where the whistle before the guitar licks derives from? I noticed it Lynyrd Skynyard and Molly Hatchet...Ronnie Van Zant whistles before the solo.. Happens in flirtin with disaster too. Is it just a que to cut in?. Like I said weird question. thanks.

I used to play guitar in a rock band, many, many moons ago. Or at least thought I did. It's just a gimmick in a song. A lot of bands whistle in songs. It dosn't signal anything. It's just the band members looking for a hook, or trying to be cool.
