Does anyone know if El Segundo sends their people to the Sherrifs academy? Or is this a dept. that expects you to complete an academy and get POST certified on your own? The job flier I read wasn't very specific and as of late I haven't had the chance to get to their city hall.
Thank You in advance for any insight.

I believe they send their guys to the LASD academy or Rio Hondo Academy.

Unless the flyer says academy graduate/lateral then usually are implying that they are looking for recruits to send through.

like alot of the SouthBay agencies( 'cept Hawthorne) they are Looking for officers-at least 10-El Seg is about 60-75 strong and recently they are running short on ams patrols( they have regularly called my dept for back up units,so I know they need new officers) Pay is good, considering alot of "extra benefits to make the pay top out decent-we've had 2 officers lateral over "across Imperial" in thelast 4 yrs and LAPD has had (3);currently El Segundo switches btwn Rio Hondo Police academy and the LASD academy, with many I've seen coming from El Segundo being rio hondo grads. There was a poster who said he was former Rangers or SF posting here about a yr ago who was in the process( don't know if he got on or stayed in TX and found an agency at home to work for);unlike the city of L.A.-no waiting game- you pass the process ,you get hired, they don't have the time to mess around. el Segundo is a small dept with a "hometown usa" feel to its community( I'm sure you've driven thru its downtown);slow work but they are VERY aggressive on crime interdiction(they have to be-Inglewood,Hawthorne, and Lennox "hood"s are on their eastern borders)

Thanx for the info DOAcop, I talked to someone who started in El Segundo and he said the same thing about the "small town" feel. ( I forgot to ask him what academy he went through though) I also her ya on the "hoods" on the other side. Years ago I did a ride along out of the Lennox station, interesting, to say the very least!
Thanx again, Stay Safe
