I have the written test Friday and the physical on Saturday of next week for Kansas City, Kansas. How should I dress for the written, suit and tie, nice pants and button up shirt? I want to make a good impression but I am afraid that getting a suit in a week on a college budget may present a problem. I am sure that if it needs to be done I can make it work.

On a side note, does anyone know what format the KCK academy is, commounity college, boot camp? Not a big deal, after doing some reading I was just curious.
Thanks in advance
Nick

A suit is the only way to go. I was in as near a suit as possible without the jacket when I interviewed for my Cadet position, and even though they hired me they did say they would have preffered a full suit. So definitely when applying for a Police Officer position, I would imagine it would be necessary.

If you can't afford to buy a suit, I believe you can rent them. That would be your best option on short notice. Good luck and I hope it goes well for you.

Some dockers and a decent button up or even a nice polo shirt are all you should need for the written. For the interview you'll need a suit so go start shopping for one now.

remember, depending how big or "popular" the department you are processing for is, you may be up against hundreds of other applicants. you want to present yourself well at EVERY STAGE OF THE PROCESS. so if you are able to get a decent looking suit for your written test, then do it. otherwise, dress in decent casual clothes and make sure you a have a fresh haircut.....first impressions are very important. good luck.
