Hey everyone,

I recently graduated from WVU (May, 2006) with a bachelor's degree in Sociology & Anthropology, with an emphisis on Crime and Social Control. I immediately began to work again at my job of 5 years (Drafter at a Engineering Company) to start making a little cash. My boss told me that he really wants me to stay, and he offered me a Designer's position, along with a $4 raise. I accepted, and I am now only making $16/hr. Here in Montgomery County, MD, that's not much.

I have recently gotten engaged to my girlfriend of 4 years, and we are getting married in the fall of '07. Since it's now time for me to buckle down and get more serious about my career, what should I be looking at?

A couple of positions that are peaking my interest the most are the Montgomery County Police, and N.S.A. Mostly because the pay seems to be on the higher end. However, I'm not 100% sure I want to live in Montgomery County because it is so rediculously expensive. My ideal place to live would be a little farther south into VA (Maybe the Winchester to Harrisonburg area). I'm a country boy at heart, and I would love to live somewhere out there. But along with that, seems to come a substantial pay-cut.

Does anyone here work in the Montgomery County area? If so, what are the perks of your job? And since I've just recently started looking into this, I'm not too certain about a LOT of stuff.

-For example, how do the different shifts work?
-Do you have good benifits?
-As a new officer, would you mainly be working on nights/weekends and holidays?
-As you get more experience under your belt, can you begin to work a more Monday thru Friday routine?

Any help would be very appreciated! Thanks in advance.
