Im looking to move to Kentucky In July of 2007. I've been an officer in the Washington DC metro area for four years,have a batchelors degree and looking to laterally transfer. Specifically I'm looking in the southern KY area.

You'll have to contact DOCJT to see if your LEO certification can transfer over. If not, you'll have to get into an academy. KSP, Louisville and Lexington run their own. DOCJT runs the state academy in Richmond for everyone else. Once you get certified at any of those academies, you can work anywhere in the state (unless, like KSP and Lexington, the agency requires you to attend their academy).

Im pretty sure my academy will transfer, they take pride in being the only accredited academy in the US. Any insite on the departments in KY?

Only accredited academy in the US?!?! Who told you that?!?!?

CALEA (www.calea.org) lists 19 academy accreditations...and that doesn't include acadamies acredited within a CALEA organization.

Don't be so confident...state laws and expectations vary widely. Contact DOCJT to see what can transfer, if anything.
