Anyone work or know of anyone who works for KCPD? I'm thinking about applying with them. I'm looking at doing another ride along and want some input on what people think of the department or any other information you could provide.
Thanks a lot,
Tim

No one works for KCPD eh? I just got a call today and I'm going to have a written exam sometime in the middle of January I believe.

I tested there several years ago and have a sour taste in my mouth for them now. I have some friends that work there and I know several who USED to work there. I think it's a love it or hate it relationship.

i have a few friends that work there and they seem to like it. I also have a friend with a masters in CJ, clean background and in excellent phisical condition get rejected, so their standards must be very high.

Hmmm, I figured their standards wouldn't be too had as they are such a large dept. I know a couple without degrees who are on out there. As for me, I'm applying for a jailer position out east and LEO position with KCPD. If I get on with KCPD I'll probably transfer out in 2-3 years depending on how I like it. I really like my home town and would love to work for them, especially since they offer almost the same pay as KCPD with hardly any crime.
Thanks for the replies and keep em comin!

As for their standards, there is no "standard".

I was asked in my polygraph how many times I had been stopped by the police. I was honest and said about a dozen. I used to work as a civilian at PD and knowing all the cops I had a bit of a lead foot on my way to work and therefore got stopped several times. I had only had 3 speeding tickets though at that time and none of them were still on my driving record.

At the end of the polygraph, the examiner asked me if there anything that would disqualify me, what would it be. I told him my driving history of being stopped and having a few tickets seems to keep getting me DQed with agencies. He told me not to sweat it because they have hired people who were suspended, revoked, had DUI's, been arrested, etc.

I got a call at the end of the process, thinking I had the job, and was told I was disqualified for law enforcement. When I asked why, she told me, "You said in your polygraph that you've been stopped and warned about a dozen times. That really bothers us." I made sure she understood it was simply WARNINGS and not tickets (as their website cleary says is a disqualifier) and she understood. But she offered me a job as a jailor or a calltaker for pennies an hour! Yeah, I was already a dispatcher and had been for about 2 1/2 years so I'm sure they would have LOVED to hire me as a dispatcher. She said if I took that job I could reapply in 15 to 18 months, otherwise it would be 18 to 24 months. No thanks...bite me.

A buddy of mine from my old explorer post applied when he was 21. He had about 6 jobs all total during high school and up to age 21. They told him he had too many jobs and needed to stay longer at one job then reapply.

That guy's couisin applied who held the same job from the time he was about 16 until he was 21 and it was the only job he had. They told him he needed to go out and get some life experience, experience some different things and try some other jobs first, then reapply.

Another friend of mine applied a couple times and didn't get hired. He got hired by KCI airport police (who also use the KCMO academy). About 6 months after graduating the academy KCMO called him up wanting to hire him then (after another agency paid for his academy).

No rhyme or reason. Wait...yes there is.....we are all white males.
