failed psychological testing

I just got some bad news that I had failed my psychological testing with an agency here in Washington. Does anybody have any idea what causes someone to fail a psych test? I'm not crazy (at least I don't think I am) and I consider myself to have a good personality. Any feedback would be appreciated as right now I am completely floored that I fail the psych. I can't believe it. Thanks.

I'm really sorry to hear that! I was medically disqulaified for having a diagnosis of probable Multiple Sclerosis.

Don't take it too hard. They are not saying your crazy.

Just think of it like this. At some point in everyone's life, they are not mentally or socially ready for law enforcement. Sometimes they can convince an oral board that they are. Sometimes a written psyc will say otherwise.

It is not a pass or fail. It is more like a mark, no mark to a series of points on a chart. It is up to the agency to decide if you have too many marks in the wrong spots. This doesn't mean that you will test the same way on your next one. Keep trying. Not many get in first run. Just be thankful you didn't get DQed for dishonesty. You are not blackballed from Law Enforcement.

Try another department. And if you can, in the meantime, get a job that will put you in the crap so that you get a mindfull of whats in store for you. Or at least challenge yourself mentally in social situations daily. Build yourself up.

Keep your head up because although it may not seem this way now, if you keep trying, you WILL be a better person in the long run when you do get hired.

rogerthump-thanks for the encouragement. It is greatly appreaciated i guess my issue is I think that I may test the same with another agency as each one seems to use the MIPP? test, the 434 question personality test thanks again.

Don't worry about failing your Psych, I failed it once before I was hired also. It is hard because you get so far and then it is such a let down. All I can tell you is don't give up................ If you want to be a cop bad enough you won't! Send me a message let me know what dept.

Indeed. I never failed and I know I am a bit nutty. I guess I have to be to be in law enforcement in today's world. As long as I keep telling myself I won't act on my thoughts, I'm good. LOL. A .50 CAL with a big scope and a crazed LE officer can be a good or a bad thing depending. Good thing I'm a good guy huh.

But I can say that seeing as most of you don't even know what department I work for; or even if I work for if you want to crack that nut open and look at it.
