I am relocating from San Jose, CA to the Seattle area in two months. My fiancee is taking a job in Redmond. Can anyone give me a heads up as to what the good cities to live and work are? I am used to a big city pace for work, but would prefer to live somewhere quiet. We have plenty of equity built up in our home, so price is not much of an issue.

Thanks in advance...

Like everywhere I suppose, there is a wide variety of cities/burbs/villages/etc. You need to fill in a few more blanks about your likes and dislikes and maybe I can help steer you in an appropriate direction. If he is going to be working in Redmond, the commute each day is going to be a nightmare for him, so am assuming you will want to live fairly close.

As for out of state laterals, I believe there is a two week "mini-academy" and then you can challenge the tests required for graduation. If you pass, you're on your way to work. If not, you're on your way to the Academy.

The State Training Commission has a website that will answer your LE questions. Living questions are a different thing entirely. PM or email, and I'll give you my take.

I could not afford the house I live in if it were in California. Lower cost housing will be your big plus. The winters are not anything to write home about.

I suspect that danceswithfools can brief you a lot better than I can about Seattle since I don't live in the Seattle area.
