Many departments in CT have Police Explorer programs, which are similar if not the same as police cadets. Many towns have thier own Explorer programs which are usually limited to residents. You would probably have to contact the department that you want to join in order to find out more about thier program.
You have to be 21 in CT to be a police officer.

Hartford PD has a Cadet program for those 18-21. The last I heard it is a full time paid position. I know several people whho started there as cadets. Good luck.

Is 20 1/2 too old to start a cadet program? I've been trying to get into LE through civilian jobs or anything and can't seem to get my foot in the door. I'm looking for things to boost my resume.

I can answer that for where I am applying to a cadet position. They most likely will not accept you because you are too old for that now. I applied for a full time paid cadet position in March 2006 and am still waiting for my background to be completed. I know here, the minimum age to enter the police acdemy is 20 1/2. Maybe you might want to consider doing that. And remeber, the application process will take some time.
