California law states that information in peace officer personnel files is confidential. If you are talking about sharing information outside of the agency that holds the data, then I am only aware of three exemptions to this law.

1. A waiver from the officer in question will allow access. If you apply to a second agency, they will have you sign waivers that will allow access to information compiled by the first agency.

2. Through a Pitchess (discovery) Motion. Even then, getting background info in a Pitchess hearing is almost impossible.

3. In connection with an investigation being conducted by a
grand jury, a district attorney's office, or the Attorney General's
office. Since this particular exemption was passed, several later court rulings suggest that prosecutors and the grand jury may no longer avail themselves of this exemption and must also go through a Pitchess Motion, so this one may be an unsettled area of law.

so if I sign a waiver they will obtain all previous personal history documents from other agencies -- even if agencies state any information you give will not be disclosed?

Yes. By signing the waiver, you have specifically authorized them to disclose it.

Any LE agency you apply with, you will have to sign a Waiver, whether it's for Medical and Financial records. And definately a waiver will be signed for documents, etc from other LE agencies you have applied with, etc. If you don't sign them, well, most likely you will be asked nicely to leave or get a very thin letter in the mail. Best advice, since I know where you are going with this is to be up front! BI's do talk to other BI's. Best of luck.

so if i previously omitted information in a background questionaire with agency X but was not cought, but then told the entire truth with agency Y, agency Y will obtain my entire packet, determine I omitted info from X and DQ me???

and thus I will NEVER be a peace officer?

Maybe. Maybe not. You initial question asked what CAN happen. Now you are trying to twist my response into an absolute as to what WILL happen. Please don't try to put words in my mouth. (You're not even good at it.)

If you really want to find out (and assuming you omissions were deliberate), simply tell Agency Y that you falsified your answers to the background for Agency X. Agency Y will let you know fairly quickly where you stand.

I should just qoute myself on this one. You were too easy too read on this thread. If you purposely ommitted info, then yes you can get DQ'ed, however that is up to that Dept and your BI. However if you did that on purpose, just go ahead and throw the towel in now please.

Yes, I did omit info on purpose from the first dept. I applied to.

I recognize this is a huge mistake (stupid, immature, dishonest, lack of character, etc etc.) So please save the personal attacks on myself.

I guess my question is what are my options (if any)...

(since you guys dont like me making assumptions, I will simply ask questions and let you answer them)...

1. Will federal LE positions ask about applications/backgrounds to local LE departments? (ICE, US Marshalls, etc)

2. If I wait, aprox. 5 years, then write departments and explain I was young and stupid and that I made a huge mistake, what are the chances that any departments would hire me?

3. Do Fire Departments ask about applications/backgrounds with police departments? (Being that police departments dont ask about applications to fire departments??)

4. Any other legit options that will allow me to get into law enforcement?

I think you answered your own question in your statement "stupid, immature, dishonest, lack of character, etc." I don't know of any agency in particular that would overlook your omissions as a passing phase that you will outgrow. Especially when you flat out lied on their application. I revealed everything I have ever done on my applications just as I was asked without going into major detail. There may be something that may sway in your favor - but I would not count on it. Time heals all wounds (most of them at least) and that may play in your favor. But like I stated previously, I certainly wouldn't count on it. I'm not saying to give it up but don't be butt-hurt when you are consistantly DQ'd.
