I have an app in with Excise, but was googling, and only found "excise" associated with Indiana...
is that part of the reason its so competitive? Or is it just labeled differently elsewhere?

The different states have different names for their agencies. Kentucky, for example, is labeled the Alcohol Beverage Control Enforcement Division. Those officers have full police powers.

I'd say they go by another name on an everday basis, kind of like the Indiana Conservation Officers. I believe their official division name is "Indiana Department of Natural Resources- Law Enforcement Division"

Anyone know anything about the excise process. I applied several months ago and haven't heard anything. Their website states they are still accepting apps. Thanks!

It may be in the spring-when I spoke to the Excise Officer I know a couple of months ago, he said they were waiting on the new year. (That is when the budget starts.) The last process started in mid-June05 and lasted until Dec05.

Every state labels their Alcohol Enforcement differently. I know Ohio has a non-uniform unit and so does Virginia. North Carolina wears uniforms and has squads. I am pretty sure ILLINOIS does not have their own enforcement division. They only use investigators through the Illinois Alcohol Commission. They mainly rely on local uniform law enforcement. You have to remember Ohio and Indiana are verrrry strict on their alcohol(blue laws). These 2 states are the only 2 in the union that do not sell alcohol on Sundays.

Are the Kentucky officers in plain clothes like Excise? (I made it to the final interview w/ the sup last year w/ Excise-no job-almost)

what have they added? I haven't noticed? I did hear again this weekend that the process was starting in January. I hope this is true and not a rumor!

When I spoke with one of the guys at the Indy office, he stated that they would be doing a mailing in March with all the people that had applied. I presume this mailing would give test dates, but he did not specifically say that.

I received my papers in the mail today for Excise testing. Tests are on March 17th and 31st.
