In the BOP we wear a uniform that looks like a security guard at Macys department store. The bop does not want officers to look like authority figures. (I kid you not) But they say next near (which means 3 years from now) We are going to a uniform that looks like your average air conditioner repair mans get up. I guess we are moving up in the world. I'm hoping to be with another agency by the time the repair man uniform rolls around.

Looked for a good picture but this is the best I could find. Don't know who the officer is so I smuged out his face. I'm on enough hit lists right now I don't need to add another one lol.

I keep trying to suggest we go to a more comfortable weaponless uniform(no metal). I have suggested a BDU top and bottom with embroidered badge and name tape.

We have
Medium gray s/s button uniform shirt
Department patch on one sleeve and flag on the other
Dark gray uniform pants with a black strip down the side
Metal badge or cloth depending on the institution
Black boots (some people wear black shoes)
Name tag (optional)
Black department baseball cap (optional)
Duty belt (optional)
Duty Equipment depents on the institution
Winter coat & spring coat (blue)
State ID must be visable at all times

Actually i like our uniforms, compaired to most departments.

I always thought it resembled a bus driver outfit, or what you typically see hotel desk clerks wearing.

Good luck with the job hunt. Careful with those other federal agencies. Some are even worse than the BOP. Look at the number of BOP who have returned from the FAMs & BP.

Yes, you read that. Yes, that is absolutely correct. The Director and his 'designees' have said so in writing repeatedly on the Bureau's intranet site called Sallyport .

They are afraid that the nice Offenders will not want to ta, ta, ta, talk to us if we look like 'da po'lice'. :(

Never mind that 95% of them rolled on some other thug(s) to da po'lice before trial.

NOBODY beats New York State's inmate made uniforms! We look like the jiffy lube oil change man (no disrespect to him, mind you). Our uniforms are a joke, and the Department is VERY resistent to professional uniforms as it might make us look too intimidating to the inmates  awwwwww

I would love to get dark blue BDUs! Our PERT personnel wear those, and look quite professional. Now if only the line C/Os could get those...

Oh and BDUs shouldn't have creases...

Another thing I forgot to mention is that a few months ago now we had a so called "dress down" day twice a week, so you had C/O's walking around units in Jeans and T-Shirts. The most I could bring myself to was a black polo with our embroidered badge and black BDU's

I can beat that. BOP inmates made our body armor (and holster, web gear, etc.). They tried to sell them to the Border Patrol also, but their union went "ballistic" and nixed it.

Need I say more about the intelligence and integrity of people running the BOP...and other federal agencies?

Oregon DOC:

In the midst of uniform change-over.

We used to have Class-A unis... light gray shirt, dark grey slax with black stripe...not a bad looking uni, if you didn't wear the gay baseball cap that they issued.

Special Housing, Transport, and K9 has worn black BDU's as long as I've been around. Looks sharp, even with the baseball cap.

Now, because the all knowing upper echelon of administration says so, we are wearing black bdu trousers with a grey short or long sleeve polo shirt. Not terrible looking, but I HATE polo shirts as a uniform. They look shabby. At least, with the old Class A's, a guy could (if he wanted to) look pretty sharp and take some pride in the condition of his uniform. Now, we look like the kids at McDonalds, the collars never stay right, the shirt material snags, the name tags dont hang right because there's no structure to the shirt. I hate it.

So, up till now, they've let Special Housing, Transport, and K9 keep the BDU tops... but I hear that will be changing soon...I hear we look, "Too militant" and "Too authoritarian." I'll not give up my BDU tops without a fight, I swear!

Oh, and our inmates are now making black BDU's in the garment factory, and they've done all the embroidery (badges/insignia) on the polo shirts. Yeah, there's a risk there I'd say.

We wear a tan uniform shirt, short or long sleeve with metal badge and nameplates, a chocolate brown trouser, can either be plain, Blauer with cargo pockets, or brown BDUs. If you wear BDUs you have to wear them bloused with a high boot. We also have an optional tan polo shirt with embroidered badge, which I usually wear but don't really like; I personally think a uniform shirt needs patches on the sleeves and this one doesn't. Duty gear is optional but you must at least have your issued gear(cuffs and OC) on your person, can be either leather or nylon.

For our Tactical Support Unit, we wear an all black full BDU uniform with subdued patches and TSU rockers, plus all the requisite cool toys and other heavy crap that a tactical team needs.

Our current badge is in the shape of the State of Arizona, but 1 Jan 07 we go to a seven point star. There was also talk of changing our uniforms to a light blue shirt/dark blue pant combo, but for once the powers that be listened to the line staff(who all hated the idea) and nixed the change.....for now....

We're suppose to be getting new jackets here in NY State - PROFESSIONAL ones like our Troopers wear, instead of the dickie style/Jiffy Lube Oil Change Guy thing we have now. I find it hard to believe they're going to give us PROFESSIONAL jackets and still make us wear this inmate made joke of a uniform!

Our County wear the exact uniform as Patrol. Green BDU / Cargo with Tan Shirt, Metal Badge, Nameplate, etc.
There is no fear of appearing authoritarian. That is our job, to be the Jail Authority. Why would anyone think that an authoritarian appearance would be bad. If social workers is what the prisoners need then commit them to a mental hospital. If breaking the law is thier problem, then put them in an institution where they can learn to obey simple rules and respect authority.

When i worked in the jail. We wore same uniforms as the patrol division with a full duty belt oc spray, cuffs, baton, mag holder, radio holder. Accorse glock was locked up. We got to wear the short sleeve shirts year round because we were indoors. But our old uniforms were great just a simple blue polo with name and badge on it. Khaki bdu's with duty belt wast the most comfortable uni ive had.

CDC uniforms are nice, but I think we have the nicest and most practical uniforms in Corrections now.Go to www.canadiancorrections.com and go to uniforms on the left side. The click it, scan down to Correctional Service of Canada's uniforms, they have our Dress uniform and our Duty uniform pictures there. We are the Canadian Version of BOP as we are FEDS, this is what the BOP guy sneed. It's comfy, practical and looks good. Its Midnight Navy with BDU shirt and cargo BDU pants.

No matter what you have for a uniform, someone's gonna complain. Full time, as an Lt., I wear tan pants with a brown stripe, either a dark brown shirt or a whiteshirt, black boots and a basketweave leather duty belt with accessories. Part time, it's a dark blue shirt, dark blue Blauer uniform cargo pants, and nylon duty gear. The dark blue is fine when it's new, but after a while you get the "Jiffy Lube" look, and they really don't look as professional as the county uniform.

Ours are inmate made.

Grey shirt with Navy blue pocket flaps and shoulder tabs, sewn in military creases.
Dept. patch on left sleeve, US flag on right, TX Seal on left chest (no badges issued).
Grey pants with Navy blue striping on the legs.
issued black basketweave garrison belt
issued duty jacket w/dept. patch on left sleeve

My daily wear is:

black/blue/or grey tshirt
uniform as stated
black duty boots
duty gear- MK4 OC holder, cuff case, baton ring, glove case, flashlight holder, pistol holster when assigned to armed post.
Body Armor when required (AD Seg, Medium Custody, Transient Cell Blocks)

We are testing a new uniform- Grey BDU pants, and Navy blue polos with patches as an alternate uniform, so far only 2 Officers at our facility are wear testing them.
