Hey there classmates,
Is there anyone on here who works for a police or sheriff's office that handles fire investigations? in my parts it's all done by the fire department.........just wondering if any LE agnecies do it too.
Thanks.

Des Moines, IA for years had fulltime teams of a fire officer and a police detective working fires. I'm not sure how they do it now since I have been out of it for awhile.
Their thinking was fire guy for O/C and cop for follow-up. Had some problems though, the criminal aspect of any incendiary fire investigation often took much more time than the O/C part, and the detectives didn't get much help from the fire dept on that aspect.
Another city sent the Fire Captain to the LE academy, so he can do it all.

We have several fire investigators (I am not one of them). They work with the Fire departments all the time. They have a good relationship.

Not in Maryland. Thats why they have the Maryland State Fire Marshal's. It's a good agency to work for. Some of the Fire departments for a few of the county and city agencies have their own Fire Investigators, but the majority of the time it's done by the Fire Marshals.

Baltimore City PD and Baltimore County PD both have arson units. (Fans of "Homicide: Life on the Street" should remember that Kellerman transferred to Homicide from the Arson Unit.) To my knowledge, that's pretty unique. Most of Maryland is covered by County or State FM's.

that's one show that should still be running........maybe not totally realistic, but still a great show.
