Do of any of you know what is the most miles you in run the academy, specifically Henderson PD. Or is it the same for all police departments in the vegas valley?

The running in the academy is pretty standard. There are three (3) academies in Las Vegas. Southern Desert Regional, NHP and Metro are the three. I attended Southern Desert when it was Southern NV Law Enfct, but the running depends on how motivated your PT instructor is. If you get a runner for a PT instructer, well then just hope you start the academy at the end of the year (September is alot cooler). When i attended, we started at 1 1/2 miles and worked up to almost 4 miles, three days a week (mon, wed, fri). You'll be surprised how well you'll do by the end of the academy....good luck.

Thank you! I'll be going to the Southern Desert Regional this coming summer. How long ago did you graduate from the academy?

How do you know you will be going to the academy next summer?? That is quite a while out. Are you already in the testing process for Henderson?

You dont have to be hired by an agency to attend the academy. The Southern Desert Regional Academy is an academy used by agencies, but can also be attended by non-affiliated applicants who can pay for the course and pass the testing process to enter. The academy is conducted by the Community College of Southern Nevada and lasts approx. 22 weeks. I believe there running 10 hr days now, which leaves you one extra day to study and re-coop. If you have any questions, pm me.

I know all about the academy at CCSN, I am trying to get into the Feb class as a non-affiliate and hope for the best from there. What agency are you with pd821? The reason I asked arianna, is because the academy is getting alot more competetive for the couple if any non-affiliate openings they may have due to the hirings of Henderson and NLV. If you plan on trying to get in as a non-affiliate this next summer, you better start thinking about getting the ball rolling now.

Non-affiliate meaning applying through CCSN and don't get paid for the training? The secretary at CCSN told me if I go through them then I wouldn't get paid for the training. She said if you want to get paid then you go and apply with one of the depts. My bills need to get paid somehow.

Not to sound like a ... well, you know - but you are a little a head of yourself. A lot of people are applying for these departments - for example, NLVPD is only putting about 30 through the academy per class - when I tested, about 400 tested ... not the greatest odds in making it to the academy through a department.

Nevermind the question I asked, talk with the people at the depts and **** and you'll know what I'm talking about, cause that is where i'm getting my answers and apparently I'm wrong on everything.

I understand the bills topic, but if for some reason you cant get into an agency, the non-affiliate status is not a bad option. I went in as a non-affiliate, prior to graduation we had agencies coming to the school and attempting to recruit us. In fact i was hired by my agency two weeks prior to graduation, so there is advantages to non-affiliate. About the bills stuff, i was in the same boat, bills and bills............because the course is through the college, it qualifys for student loans. I was able to secure 4000 dollars in a student loan, some payed for the class, gear, etc....the other paid the bills while in school. I pay 50 bucks a month towards re-payment. Review your options, if for some reason getting on an agency to get in doesnt work out....good luck
