We're hiring again. I will post the link below for the specifics. Be advised that we are a dual-certified agency, meaning that you do both police and firefighting. All officers (who are not EMT's) also go through the 60 hr DOT approved First Responder course. The starting salary isn't much to look at, but pay increases fairly quickly. PM if you want anymore specifics.

We had an early buy-out a few years ago and 6-8 promotions that we're just getting around to replacing. This latest position is due to a 6yr officer leaving out of state.

How does it work with officers doing both? If there is a squad call or fire call do only certain officers repond with fire equipment? Also does your squad transport tot he hospital or does the local fire department transport?

From what Scott has posted in the past.......
You work the LE side of the house for so many days, then you work shifts out of the firehouse responding to calls for so many days to make up you workweek.
They are full service LEO and Fire/Med, so I suspect they transport to the hospital.......just like they transport their prisoners to lock-up.

sounds like a pretty good place to start out. Looks like it'll be good experience, plus give options on which route to proceed. It's something that definitely interests me.

Is EMT-B enough to fill in the prerequsites? I do not have an AA. "Just" 8 years military experince and a combat tour in Iraq.

Very cool. You get the best of both worlds and get paid to do both. I wish we had something like that up here. You either do one or the other for pay, other wise paid one and volunteer other.

1) You either need an EMT license or 60 hrs of college to meet the minimum requirements for employment.
2) Out of a 5 day work-week, 3-4 days are doing the police function and 1-2 days you're assigned to the firehall. When doing police, you will either be assigned in the main airport terminal or on vehicle patrol. Class A uniforms are worn unless you're on the bike team, then you're issued a bike uniform (nylon gear, etc). When we have extra people on shift, we also have plain clothes positions. When you're assigned to the firehall, you wear a firehall uniform consisting of BDU's, leather belt, and firehall shirt.
3) K9 teams have their own uniforms. They are also the only officers to get take-home vehicles (new Explorers).
4) Once hired, you're in training just about a year. This consists of 10-wk state police academy (TN), Basic fire academy (TN), Basic aircraft firefighting (KY), First Responder (if you're not an EMT), and 20 weeks of FTO (10 wks police, 10 wks fire). After training and FTO is complete, you will move to Officer I.
After you're off probation you are eligible to put in for a special team (Hazmat/GO Team, K9, SWAT, Crisis Negotiations, DUI/BAT officer, Bike Team, Crime Scene Tech, EOD, etc).
100% Tuition reimbursement is available if the education is job related.
Once you're selected for a special team, training is paramount. I am part of the CSI team, Bike, and Hazmat/GO Team. I have been sent to over 300 hours of Hazmat Training including WMD Hazmat "COBRA" in Anniston. Bike team goes through 40 hr IPMBA and EOD goes to Federal School @ Redstone.
You will have to sign a 5-year contract once employed. They put roughly $8k into each Officer Trainee.

Sounds pretty cool. I might just apply there down the line if I don't take this job and finish school.
