Hey guys, Hope everything is going well with/for you.
I have a couple questions, I would definitely like to join the CHP, I have been an explorer CHP for 2+ years and went to Level 2 academy. I'm 22 now and would like to apply for CHP, but my question is: I recently got a speeding ticket and a red light ticket, the speeding ticket was in sandiego for 81+mph which i am going to take traffic school and take care of it, the other is a "No right turn on Red".
Will this greatly affect my chances of becoming a cop? I have a clean record and never been to jail or anything of that sort.
That is it, I'd like to get some responses before I talk to a recruiter.
Thanks
-Joe

Not sure if this helps, but I've never smoked marijuana and never been arrested or have had any warrants or been in trouble with the law.

Wasting your time here- call the recruiter, sit down and talk to a supv at your local CHP station for info and help. The two citations look "bad", but shouldn't hold you up from applying or even passing the backgrounds-just be a little more patient in your driving habits..... Apply NOW.....

Go to this web site http://www.chp.ca.gov/recruiting/html/oqualifications.html find the number on the second to last paragraph. Call them. They are very good at telling you what will hold you back and what won't. I seriously dout that those two tickets will prevent you from being hired, but I'm not a cop so CALL THEM AND ASK. Good luck.

I was also a CHP explorer for several years (level 3). I went through the hiring process with CHP and a city PD. I had 2 tickets one for 93 mph and the other for 30 over, otherwise a clean background, good work history and education. I got a perfect oral score and passed both backgrounds, getting academy dates for both agencies. I had a year of no tickets when I went through the oral. So it wasn't much time. The CHP background was pretty intense compared to the city background. I can't tell you about your case specifically, but it sounds similar to mine.
I choose the city PD. It was the right choice for me.
