The selection process with HPD is very thorough. Depending on your background which many applicants fall prey to, can take several months up to a year to complete. They want to know where you have been living since the day you were born and do check references which sometimes makes it difficult for military personnel.
Out of the thousands of applicants that apply, the department only take a select few to the academy. An average of 20 or so applicants are dismissed for various reasons during training. Either way, if your interested, give it try and see what happens. Good luck!!
