I think the next runner up may be Kenner Police, which is in J. Parish. Not even the State boys get paid near that till after their first year.
However the VA Hospital, USDA Forestry LE, Federal Wildlife and Fisheries, well they start off more then Jeff Parish.

Rapides SO starts at 32,000, thanks to Sheriff Hilton getting a 1/2 cent sales tax passed.

I hear Jefferson Parish and Kenner PD are going to 40k this year. Both have a TON of $$ from their tax base.

Nick Congemi turned that place into the department it is. Steve Carraway will be a fine successor. Best money/department combo in the area.

Before I went to the agency I'm in now, I was going to Kenner PD. Did all the tests, psych, etc. I was just waiting for an academy date. Although it was over 10 years ago, they were the highest paid in the state and had a ton of overtime working the NO airport. Also, Ive never heard an ill word said about them. With all the changes in my agency, I still think about re-applying, from time to time.

I like KPD's units also. Classic aggressive black/white units, in which no department in the local area i can think of operates.

That was always Nicks' plan from day 1.He hated the "Yenni" green as much as the rst of us.

State Police are highest.I thought they had to be a percentage higher than any other agency in the state. Which they are fighting for now.

State Police are highest, its wrote into law. They have to be a percentage higher than any other agency in the state. Which they are fighting for now.
Where in "STATE LAW" is that written? I have never seen or even heard of that. Usually the State Police in most states are the highest paid, however these days that are not. Even still you have to look at the Federal Agencies in Louisiana and they definately make more then LSP.

I was just going off of your statement about it being written into Law and the word agency. There are a few out there in La. that make more then LSP and will always make more. I doubt LSP would be able to dictate them making more in a state law. A Sheriff can pay his deputies what he/she chooses too. Even a Sheriff in La, no matter the size of the Parish/Dept. makes 100K.

I worked for Kenner PD from 1993 to 1995, 6 months before i left the salary went from 18k to 21k. But I had lots of overtime from working the casino parking lot detail as well as working over on the nite shift. It was not a bad place but as with any department there were some idiots and some stupid rules and policies. I left for Gulfport PD and started there at 23k. Then fell into a real good gig with the UN police in Kosovo, 100k per year. As far as I know Kenner is still the highest paid in the state, even more so with state supplemental pay.

Well, I can tell you it is a fact that it is legislated (law) that the LSP is the highest paid. If Bunkie PD gets a raise to 1% over the LSP, then LSP, by law, will get a raise.
There has long been a myth that Kenner PD was such a high paying agency. My understanding is that in reality, they advertise an awesome salary, but decling to explain the "salary" includes the value of a take home car, value of vacation days etc. I've talked to a couple of Kenner guys (one of which works for LSP now) who agree with my explanation. The actual cash salary is not as much as you'd think.
Anyone know if the state supplemental pay has been increased? Last I knew it was $300.

I would really like you to state this "law". A Sheriff can pay his/her deputies what He/She chooses too. A Sheriff can pay a deputy $4,000 a month is they so choose it.
A Sheriff can put in to raise the sales tax through a vote. With that they can pay their deputies any amount and they do. I have researched this so called "law" you mention and have yet to see where it states this.

i looked up the law also, and spoke with numerous lsp guys...seems like a sace of Sh** to me. I get paided more than some lsp guys that have more time then me.
LSP also doesnt get the 300 sup pay that every other officer gets.

State supp pay is factored into the LSP's salaries. They do not receive a separate check, and it cannot be taken away from them like it could from the rest of the state leos should the legislature decide so.
I was in the process for Kenner pd right before I got hired by the feds. Kenner is a decent agency, but like all of louisiana, they have their issues as well. Overall however, it's better than NOPD by a longshot. SO's in louisiana have no civil service protection. If a new sheriff gets elected, and he decides to fire everyone, he can. Regardless of years of service.
