I have a paper to write . Prompt is : " Identify eight things that a police officer may lawfully do after stopping a vehicle"
So far we got:
Request I.D.
Run a warrant search and criminal history check (US vs. White and US vs. Beck)
Order passengers out of the car (Maryland vs. Wilson)
Conduct a pat down on occupants (Minnesota vs. DIckerson)
Ask consent to search there vehicle (Ohio vs. Robinette)
Lets argue in three more.

Run registration check.
Run DL History.
Order operator out of vehicle.
Tow unsafe or illegally operated vehicles.
That is a very broad and open ended question with almost endless answers based on what the officer sees, hears, smells, etc. Here are just a few off the top of my head.
1. If Driver does not have DL in possession you may search the vehicle anwhere where the identification may be.
2. Issue a citation
3. Issue a warning.
4. Arrest for any contraband/warrants/probable cause
5. Impound vehicle
6. Fourth waiver search/compliance check for parolee/probationer driver or occupants

You might want to check your supreme court decisions. Minnesota v. Dickerson gave us the Plain Feel doctorine. It doesn't give you any right to pat search anyone. Terry v. Ohio allows a pat search when criminal activity is afoot, and in several other circumstances.

Deliver an emergency message
Locate a wanted person from another jurisdiction
A welfasre check by request
Pick his nose
Flatulate
Sing along to the radio ("Radar Love" comes to mind)
That's all I think... :D

Ditto..
Terry v. Ohio was extended to allow pat downs and immediate frisk of the area in the vehicle where the searched person was sitting for weapons. The officer must be able to articulate why they felt they were in danger when deciding to pull them out of vehicle and patted them down and searched (reaching for something, etc).
This is different from the probable cause developed when they roll down the window and marijuana smoke pours out...:D

I was doing that just this evening. It was the new version of "Land of Confusion" by Disturbed, though. The videos of my traffic stops are always interesting in court. :D

Yea. I also talk to myself during pursuits or hot runs. :o My favorite was probably when I hit a deer in my Chief's brand new car...the four-letter words were absolutely FLYING on that video!

The last one could be: Run a k-9 around the car. There are limitations but since I got one handy I use it frequently.

Yeah, but wait till they play the video in court and you're singing "A Boy Named Sue" and it's right at the part where you go...
"...my name is Sue.....HOW DO YOU DO? NOW YOU'RE GONNA DIE!!!"
It's funny as hell now, but then......?
