Hello !
I'm currently going through the hiring process for EPSO. I'm 22 yrs old. I am currently POST certified and just completed my EMT basic courses. I nearly have 60 college credit hours as well. Law enforcement is my passion. I just don't see myself doing anything else.
Next month I have my oral board with EPSO. I have been through 2 other oral boards. One with Canon city PD, and one for the police academy. Is there anything that I should be worried about ? I know that the whole oral board process is designed to make you sweat.. and it's already doing that to me :o When I show up I will be dressed to impress. I will have my game face on, and be ready to go. If there is any pointers that any of you can give me, it's greatly appreciated.

I'm in law enforcement and I know after taking four oral boards in the past that they can be a little intimidating. The best advice I can give you is first of all understand that if you don't have any le experience, they don't expect you to answer as if you do. Secondly, the questions will more than likely be ethical, problem solving, and team concept in nature. So, remember to be honest and confident in your answers. The will more than likely be able to sese if your unsure about you answers. One last factor to consider is your age, level of maturity is very important in le...so understand that they will be considering that as well. Good Luck...

I have been through two of them so far...what I am finding is they are very much designed to test your integrity. What would you do if...type of questions. Also some questions mixed in regarding "what do you know about our dept./city/county". I would recommend going to the dept website and city/county website to pull up some quick demographics that you can bring up in the interview to show that you have done some research. I also searched for some info on the chief and found a couple of articles that discussed his views on policing, which I felt showed that I was in tune with what his views were. Lastly, on the advice from a vet in another police dept., answer your questions as if the dept with which you are interviewing is the ONLY department for you.
P.S. Also be prepared to show how much of a team player you are..most depts are big on a team concept.
Granted these are my opinions based on my experience and may or may not apply to you.
GOOD LUCK!!!

El paso puts you in a room with 5 other applicants, gives you a topic you must discuss with the group in front of the evaluators and come to an agreement on, and then present your decision to the board. it sucked cuz when i tested with them everyone was basically fighting over who got to speak... IN THE BOARD ROOM. it was disgraceful. And in the end I was placed in D band... with CSPD I was put in the high B band. I vowed never to test for el paso again because of this process. I can understand identifying and discussing the team concept.. but this method is rediculous.
