Our department just made it optional to carry O.C. I was just wonderding if the departments are the same way. If so, do you still carry it on your duty belt? We got Tasers now and im running out of room. Thanks

We MUST carry our firearm, ASP, 2 pairs of cuffs, OC, knives, and Taser if we are in uniform. If you need more room you could always carry your extra magazines vertically to add room to your belt. Personally, I want to have every tool I can with me but if it was a choice between OC and Taser, the taser stays hands down.

While many officers have tasers, we still mandate that OC be carried. OC can be deployed on multiple offenders and can push a crowd back. It's easier to deploy on fast-moving, four-legged, furry felons. You can use OC in a non-linear fashion (e.g.: forcing a suspect out of a closet, car, or our from under a bed). OC isn't going to be left back in the station on a charger nor do we ever need to send it to Arizona for repairs.

My department allows us to go all the way to only carry a gun, spare mags, handcuffs and a radio. Everyone has a taser and all of us carry them but PPs allows deputies to go down to nothing basically.
