What are you looking for exactly? I have a friend who graduated LETI in the spring. If you're wanting specific info, I can probably have him get on here and contact you directly.

One of my old college roommates works there. I think you start in the jail and have to work there a while before you can go out on the road....not sure if that is still the case.

I can find out if you want.....

Your best bet though, would be to call them and ask if they are hiring, see what the requirements are, and if you would be starting in the jail or not.

CPD is usually hiring....I know the Chief well and he said that they have been down on their luck lately with folks (a couple of them have been criminal charged) so they are going to start toughing up their hiring standards and do deeper backgrounds to see if that will help them out....

Good luck....

i may know your old roomate, the officer that is a friend of mine used to work in DC. He's the one helping me get on with Columbia. They have a few spots opening in Oct. and those are the ones I'm going for. I really want to work there, but I'll do whatever I have to to get into law enforcement. does anyone know anything about boone county sheriff? that may be my second choice. thanks for the replies.

No offense...but I don't know anyone from Columbia that came from the DC area....as I am from NW Missouri...moved out here to take a job with the Feds.

As for Columbia...good PD...they have had some issues with a couple of folks doing stupid ****....plus Molly got killed last year in the line of duty...so it's been a rough 18 months or so.

The Chief is a top notch guy and is working to keep them where they need to be as one of the better PDs in MO. He said last week that they are going to have a tougher hiring standard to help keep out folks that have issues and have done stupid crap. They have good money flowing into the place and have great equiptment......

As for Boone County...as I said...I am 99.9% that you start off in the jail and have to work there at least a year before you go to the road. Not that it's a bad thing....but a lot of folks don't like working the Jail.......

Good luck....

I lived in Boone County for 17 years. My father was a Patrol Sgt. there for several years. CPD is great dept in my opinion espicially if you can get on the S.T.A.R. team, they have the money for the best equipment and training. CPD also has benefits that rival MSHP. BCSD is also a top notch department, so of the best camraderie I've seen around. I currently work for Montgomery Co. Sheriff's Dept and strongly suggest working itn a jail for a little while. I have had everything from Suicide Attempts, Drugs, Drunks, Assaults, which has supoenaed me to court and got me some testifying time. My girlfriend, Sheila, started LETI with you.

I've been looking into bcsd but I'm kind of leary about working in the jail for a while. actually you are one of the first people to tell me it might be a good thing. CPD is really where I want to be but I understand it's pretty hard to get on there. Sheila's pretty cool. I think she will make a great cop. I appreciate the post, if you have any other advantages/disadvantages to working a jail first I'd love to hear them.

Hey man, I"ve done 2 and a half years in the jail, and love it. Most of the guys on our Sheriff's Dept. have come from either our jail or another. I look at it like this. As a new guy, you'll be quick to realize what kind of respect someone in a L.E. uniform DOESN'T get. You will get to play with all the PPCT and hands on techniques you have learned and test them out and figure out which you like the most. I teaches you to develope the neccessary level of suspicious awareness of your surroundings.i.e., people behind you ( which SHOULD be zero.) I have found drugs on people being brought in that the arresting officer did not find. Which writing the P.C. (Probable Cause) Statement, your Narrative, Supplemental, Use of Force reports, ets. is all great practice. Then getting your subpoena to testify. Which any more time you have on stand is valuable. It's rather nerve racking first time out. Then seeing the guy do 20 years for his stupidity. ( A current case I finished )

I have had a guy that got a hold of a penny. Yes a penny. He sharpened the edge to a razor and then began to self-mutilate. He then decided to invite me to play. Covered in blood, holding the penny to his Carotid artery, begans making demands. Armed with a TAZER, I decide I"ll Zap the hell outta this guy then whoop him for wasting my time and take the penny. Then I remember this guy has HEP-C. So now I can't shoot because then I have to wrestle him in his disease. So now I have talk him down and pretend to care about his feelings. Turns out all he needed was a ciggarette. BUT the situation was very unstable and I thought he would do it. I learned alot about Verbal Judo that day ( Ask Mr. Stevens about Verbal Judo... )

I have delt with the guys that decide to exercise his/her right to remain silent. Completely silent and not answer any questions. Now you have to break down the wall to book him in. Once again, more verbal communication techniques that can persuade a person to do what you want.

And of course my favorite, the drunk. The drunk that knows the law better then you. " Your just pickin on him, you should be out arrresting crack-heads" They try to run the show, you have to "convince" them that YOU run the show.

It's all just such a wealth of knowledge that will pay off ten fold. On that note I would like to say that Warren Brewer, the Jail Administrator is a good guy. Just talk to him. I have loved my time at the jail. However I must move on. I'm just waiting on my Conditional Offer of Employment for Highway Patrol, then I'm gone in January.

If you have any more questions just holler.

Good Luck in whatever you choose.
