After reading about the troubles in the San Diego P.D. (pay and benefits etc..), how is anyone surviving in Honolulu on that payscale? $3256 monthly starting pay....IN HONOLULU!!!! After about 5 years, you'll be up to $3631!!! WOW!!! Don't forget about shelling out about $340.00 monthly for family medical in addition to state tax and their retirement fund ($280 bi-weekly). Officers just can't lateral to the next door Department like the mainland, over here it'a a big decision to move across the ocean for better pay and benefits. Some are leaving, but others have to work special duty and their regular shifts each day. The Mayor doesn't seem to care and the Chief just changed their schedule from a 3/12 to a 5/9. HPD is worth coming to.

It's time for you to move to the island of Las Vegas...Why not, there are enough of us to call it home...

Sorry to hear this. I read an article about an exodus to Washington State that addressed those issues. I love Hawaii myslef and would love to be a cop there but because of the above no way. We have one guy who crossed the pond to here but it was a while ago since he left.

Unfortunately, it is too expensive to fly back and forth for the process. I was invited to a process in San Diego, but, again, that was too costly as well.
I lived in Kililani for 3 years, years ago and always planned to go back. But, NOT on the salary being offered and since HPD doesn't take laterals and is NOT POST certified, no can do.
