Hi, got a question regarding on speed ticket I just got a few days ago while going to Ocean City on 50 EAST/WEST.

I saw a lot of highway patrols (state trooper) and alot of speed arrests while driving by. Therefore, I was driving just a bit over the speed limit with "Cruise Control" Suddenly I've being pulled over and being ticketed for a speed ticket of going 73 in a 55 zone. (NO SPEED LASER GUN WAS USED, NO PROOF) I was ****ed because 1) the car in front of us was way faster than us 2) I was using "cruise control" in about 63 miles per hour. 3) Also, there are a lot of cars that was going the same speed as us.

I feel this is really unfair, (I never had a speed ticket, but a warning) Can anyone here please tell me what are the chances to fight it off.

Thank you for all your times!!!

How do you know there wasn't any proof that MSP was not using a Laser? They do and they definately do on US 50 going towards Ocean City. Anyway, it's obvious you were speeding anywy, so either just pay the ticket or takit it to court. that simple.

1. How do you know the car in front of you was going faster? Are your eyes calibrated for speed?

2. You were speeding

3. Laser picks or can pick one vehicle and hey, you must have has the golden ticket that day...literally. :) Just pay it or go to court and move on.

If a vehicle was moving the same speed as yours at a certain time side by side or in front of you, then the car speeded away from your vehicle, which is so obvious that proofs the vehicle was faster that whatever the vehicle was mentioned.

Definitely will procees to court because this is totally unfair.

Yes, I was speeding, but not at 73.
Go ahead and take it to court. If it's any Traffic court judge on the Eastern Shore you will be found guilty. When and if you do admit to your actual speed you stated to us, you can still be found guilty of speeding anyway and then have to pay your court costs! So be it, you were the unlucky one that got busted..suck it up and admit to your mistake.

PBJ is probation before judgement.

You can admit to your speed and the judge may reduce it to your admitted speed. Good luck though.

Thanks for the reply, the ticket fine was for $80.00 so, it's that mean if admit that was going 63, will that ticket be reduced in the amount? and will court fee gonna apply too?

So, honestly, don't you think this is fair? or anybody think this is fair or not...............I hope they have a proof of the speed.............
What do you mean "you hope they have proof" We as LEO's take an oath and are sworn to uphold that, so being in court for a simple speeding ticket, what proof do you want?

I will say this, if you admit to your speed, and if and only if they find you guilty, you will have to pay the fine and the court costs or get the fine reduced and pay the court cost, which you will either be paying more for the ticket you got or pay the same amount.

Whatever "answer" you are looking for...you are not going to get it on here, this is not " how to beat a speeding ticket"...you are wrong, so just suck it up as I stated earlier and pay the ticket. $80 is not that bad!

Yeah, it's fair.

If you were written for 73 then you were traveling at 73. You can take that to the bank.

I've never heard of any cop I know just making up a random number and then pulling someone over and writing them a ticket for it.

Since this is posted in the "Washington, D.C. and Federal" forum rather than the "Maryland" forum, I have to wonder if a similiar inattention to detail might have resulted in your driving faster than you believe you were driving.

"Fairness" is not the issue. Undoubtedly, there were cars traveling faster than you on the highway that day. Sadly for you, the trooper was writing another driver or responding to a call or service or eating lunch when those cars went by. You happened to be the one who was paced or, more likely, blew into a laser beam.

If the lack of fairness so concerns you, I'd urge you to take the citation to court and tell the judge how you feel. Granted, that wouldn't be my strategy with an Eastern Shore judge, but one should stand up for his principles.

While all people to include cops are human (even MSP), it's unlikely that the trooper lied or made a mistake in the speed. There are way too many speeders out there to sandbag someone with a false speed.

Hey kid, your first post you stated you received the ticket!

Second, you were speeding, whether you were going 63 or 73, maybe your eyes are wrong...and you want a job in LE??? Yeah good luck Mr. Honest.

That's like saying you only robbed one bank and they charged you with robbing two. Hint: it is not going to be that great of a defense to raise in front of a judge.
