I have been a Police Officer for just over three years now. I am now getting the itch to stretch my legs and move on to a larger department. I only have a 640 hour POST Certification, how much of a disadvantage am I at with most medium sized departments?

640 is a Class A License....so you should be go to go....except for the biggies like KCPD, STL City and County, The Patrol, Water Patrol, Conservation, and Springfield....who all run their own academies....and require all to go through them completely.......or a portion of them when if you get hired by them.....
I know in the KCMO Area no one gave a crap how many total hours you had...just as long as it was Class A.
Good luck....

Yeah, I know it is that way on paper, but I have got the impression the past couple of years that unless you have 800+ hours, some departments won't even touch your application.
You are right though, it IS still a class A...I guess I should stop thinking about it and just toss my app out as much as I can and see what happens. Thanks ;)

Best thing to do is apply at all the places your interested in....and if you get turned down, ask why.....
As long as you are going to some good continuing ed classes.....there shouldn't be a problem.
At least that's how it was on the KC side of things....not sure about where you are at.....
