I haven't seen this discussed yet, but I'm hoping it didn't slip under everyone's radar screen.

On Jan. 1, 2003, it became illegal to sell a handgun in Maryland unless it has an integrated trigger lock.

That leaves the residents of Maryland with a whopping 6 choices on the handgun market.

This, of course, coming a few years after their silly requirements making the manufacturer fire and save rounds for guns to be sold in MD.

Fortunately the requirement is for guns that were manufactured as of 1/1/03. Any gun manufactured before that date is still legal to sell without a built in lock. Don't know how long it will take to have an effect on what you can buy but it eventually will. Fortunately for me I have all of the handguns that I want. If I decide on more they will definitely be used.

This was more nonsense feelgood legislation from the most corrupt governor Maryland has ever had, Parris Glendenning. For anybody who thought Clinton was bad, this guy was far worse. Clinton at least pretended to have dignity in office. Glendenning among many things managed to have an affair, give the woman a high paid state job, divorce his wife, then marry the now high paid girlfriend. Two weeks after the surprise wedding it was anounced that she was now pregnant. Sounds like an awfully damn accurate pregnancy test to me.

Maryland now has a Republican governor named Bob Erlich. He has promised to look at Maryland's restrictive gun laws and see what is working and what is not. He has now brought in Project Exile which should be far more effective than letting the Baltimore City State's Attorney Office prosecute gun crimes. Baltimore's State's Attorney, Patricia Jessamy has a terrible track record on prosecution of real criminals.

Unfortunately for Erlich, Maryland's legislature is still majority Democrat. He'll have a difficult with any legislation that he proposes, especially with the three largest juridictions in the state being Baltimore City and the DC suburbs.

I think the gun manufacturers will just quit selling to the "gun hostile" states, which is exactly what the gun banners want. They'll put so many restrictions on them that it'll be unprofitable or unrealistic to sell them there.

Since handgun buyers already have so many hoops to jump through to purchase one, its not like these states generate a large volume of sales anyway.

They'll just quit selling them in those state, and once again the little guy loses because he legislaters are making his "choices" for him.

Mine came with a sticker proclaiming this.

Go ahead and stock up on weapons now. If for anything to pass down to your children or your grandchildren once the anti-gun crowd finally wins. I can't see the USA becoming anything but more restrictive as the rights infringing, ahem, I mean the society protecting know-what's-best-for-everyone-else do gooders forces through a total gun ban.

Don't get me started on MD gun control (I used to live there)! Uh-oh, too late, I'm already up on my soapbox (prepare for rant). While living in MD I decided to purchase a handgun. I bought it from a reputable gun shop in DE that I new the owner of very well. Per MD law, the gun was transferred to a gun shop in DE. This is where the fun begins. I paid for the gun in DE on Dec. 31st before the whole "Anyone purchasing a handgun or assault rifle in the state of MD must first complete a gun safety class" thing which went into effect on Jan. 1st. That same day I go to the MD gunshop to take care of the paperwork on that end. The lady is not sure about the paperwork and his me fill out both years forms just in case and advises that when the gun arrives there, she will call me to pick it up. Two weeks later, I get a call stating they lost my paperwork and now I have to make another trip there (1 hr away) to fill out new paperwork. I go and do exactly that, only now I am required to take the stupid class. I am a cop in DE (with years of experience handling firearms of all kinds, I might add), so I call MSP to see if I can waive the class. The Sgt. I spoke with said unfortunately I could not and that if he retired tomorrow, he would be required to take the class also. Ridiculous! So I go to take the test. Because the requirement is so new, there's only like three places in the whole state that offer the test and only only on the third Thursday of odd numbered monthes if the sum of the date is divisible by three!!!!!!!!   So I go take the class. What a complete and utter waste of time. If a person had never heard of a firearm and had no concept as to what one was, the 40 min video they showed may have been helpful. There was no hands on skill demonstrations or actual firing of weapons. There was not even any classroom instruction, only the video. I was livid. The only minute saving grace was that the 1970's vintage video was narrated by same guy that played Buck Savage, which I found very funny. Anyway, I finally get a call from the MD gun shop saying they have the gun the paperwork has been returned by MSP and I can come pick it up. I go to do just that and, what do know? It was somebodyelse's paperwork, not mine. Up until this point, I had been polite and understanding with these people. This time I voiced my displeasure in no uncertain times. The lady apologizes and agrees to waive the $15.00 transfer fee (from MD to DE). Long story short, a month and a half later, I finally am able to go pick the gun up, this after calling every day in between to see if it was in yet. I get there and the employee trys to collect the $15.00 transfer fee. WTF! I told the employee that the owner had agreed to waive the fee because of all the screw ups they had made and the length of time involved as a result of those screw ups. This was the same employee who lost the paperwork to start with.
The Employee: I don't know anything about that.
Me: Wanda does, is she here?
Employee: No.
Me: Well let's get her on the phone.
Employee: She's on vacation.
Me: Take the d@mn money, it's a small price to pay not to have to deal with your ineptitude anymore.
I was ready to go into orbit. You have to understand, that this particular gun was expensive, and I had been saving for a couple years to get it. Holy *****, do you know how long it took me to type all this? Sorry, just needed to share my wonderful experience in handgun purchasing. Thank Gawd, Ehrlich got elected and not the alternative!
