So, I tested with King County a little while ago and I passed the physical test but didn't do so hot on the report writing section of the written test. I'm coming back in October to test with "Public Safety Testing." I'm expecting their written test to be a little different than King County's, but I'm hoping to pass it this time. If anyone has any advice or recommendations on test preparation sites online, I would greatly appreciate any help. Has anyone taken tests with Public Safety Tesing? What can you tell me about their process other than what's on their web site?
Thanks...

Don't know much about their tests, but my PD also uses Publicsafetytesting.com. You can test once but sign up with multiple contracting agencies. Your results will be on different agency lists, in different positions relative to whom you are competing against. Consider signing up with multiple agencies. It's like betting win-place-show.

Welcome back! Just so you know, KCSO just moved over to publicsafetytesting.com too. :)

Good to see you still keeping your head up!

christuan

Thank you, christuan. Too bad I have to wait 6 month before I can re-test with KCSO. I'm hoping that I can add the department at the end of the year without having to make another trip. I'm sure it would be worth it, but it's getting expensive.

Tacoma is a good dept to apply for! It is a VERY busy place and has around 400 officers or so! Last I heard they were going to start hiring again. Are they part of Public Safety testing now?

Yes they are. I guess they are looking to establish a hiring list.

I just tested with public safety testing on August 29th. The most important thing to know and prepare for is the NCJOSI (National Criminal Justice Officer Selection Inventory). 45 questions in cognitive reasoning, which you can study and prepare for (practice questions free online...google "ncjosi"), and 42 questions in personality attributes, which are statements that you will respond to with Stongly Agree, Agree, Unsure, Disagree, or Strongly Disagree. This section you cannot prepare for, but just be as honest as possible and answer with firm answers...not "unsure". All questions are multiple choice and you can write in your test booklet.

This is how my timeline went.
10.30 Ate Breakfast (anticipating physical activity soon...wrong!!! I should have eaten at least a snack before the test)
12:45 Arrived and checked in (Driver's License and Waiver)
1:00 Briefing and waiting began (sitting at the table bored)
1:30 - 3:00 Written Test (I took my time and took about an hour)
3:00 Everyone reconvened in the testing room where they gave directions to the physical testing site. (ours was at a high school about 3 minutes away)
3:10 Proctor called names and gave us our fitness test sheets as we walked past them out the door. (At that time, you will know if you passed the written but not your actual score)
3.15 Arrived at the High School
3.20 WSP gave a recruitment informational brief
3.37 Finished 300 meter Sprint
4:19 Finished push-ups
4:35 Finished sit-ups
5:35 Finished run (notice the times here..taken off my actual score sheet. You will be waiting around forever in between events!)
6:15 Everyone was finished and scores were calculated (84.52 written and 195.25/200 physical)
6:30 The proctors gave back our fitness sheets with our written exam results written on them. Still at the track, you will now know your written and physical results and are free to go about 6 hours after you began...so EAT A SNACK OR BRING A POWER BAR!!!! Also, make sure you wear layers, because the physical testing is outdoors. Other than that, hydrate before, relax during and celebrate after!!!

As I said, I tested on the 29th, and one department received my score on the 1st and called me (yes, sunday!) the 3rd.

I hope this helps you and, if you have any more questions, feel free to contact me.

Wow! I will eat! Thanks for the info. Congratulations on passing your tests! How is the interviewing process going? How many departments did you sign up for?
Where did you take your test? I plan on taking it in Burien. I was under the impression that the testing takes place at the Criminal Justice Training Center. Maybe I'm wrong?

I applied for 5 Departments here on the Eastside...I would recommend applying for more so you don't have to test again (plus it is more cost efficient). You probably are testing at Burien. My test location was the Lynnwood Public Safety Testing Office.
I will let you know how the rest of the process goes...so far, I have done one oral board and am awaiting official results...
