Anyone know anything about the department? Anyone know how many they are putting on? I just took the written test today and I believe I did well on the test.

good luck. Shelby county is the best paid and better equipped department in the state. I applied but never took the test, because when I talked to the personnel office, was told there were something like 90 applicants and 1 position open in the whole dept. that was in june when they had a test. they test once a quarter, no matter what.
You might want to look east, sylacouga, talladega or muncipalities in Shelby county, they are easier to get on to, but average $25,000 or more yearly.

Tuscaloosa Police Department in Tuscaloosa Al is always hiring and we start at a little over $35k a year. Plus a lot of easy over time such as football games and the like.
Fairly large department in AL with roughly 250 officers + civilian staff.

look for towns or cities that have some type of large factory in them. Tuscaloosa has an auto plant, sylacouga has blue bell ice cream, montgomery just got hyndai, they will have better pay rates. Shelby county has 280 where all the retail business is and all the new money from bham moved south to the lakes. if that is the area you are looking to move to, look at pelham, pell city, moody, hoover, leeds, an montevallo (college girls :D )
