1. The physical fitness test requires you to do what is below but what is the quantity or time which ever is applicable??? I got all this info from there site but no "standards" if thats what you want to call them.

Physical Fitness Test (Appropriate Athletic Wear Required)

Vertical Jump
Sit Ups For One Minute
300 Meter Run
Push Ups For One Minute
1.5 Mile Run

2. To apply for a unit or positions how long is the FTO, Probation, and length of time you are required to do in patrol???

Upon completion of your field training program, probationary period, and the length of time required in patrol you can apply for one of these or other specialized positions in the Department:

Criminal Investigations
Intelligence Unit
Narcotics & Vice Investigations
K-9
Traffic Enforcement
Community Relations
Mounted Patrol
Tactical Unit
Recruiting
LETS
Bomb Squad
Helicopters
Bicycle Squad
Motorcycles
Gang Unit
Reserve Battalion

I am from Illinois and am planning on testing for Dallas Police in the future (1yr) Any other news would be great if you have any.

And how do you get the 10,000 dollar bonus??

I would think that their standards are similar to other department. Based upon the 50th percentile from the Cooper Institute. Sit-ups=36 in on minute, Push-ups=26 without stopping, 1.5 mile run=13:30 min. I would think that the vertical jump, and 300 meter run are based more on a grade against other applicants.

I don't know any of this to be true, but this is what I have seen in many department.

They should be on par with other departments, but the times and amount that you listed are far from the 50th percentile. The 50th percentile are as follows..... Sit-Ups = 29.3 in one minute, Push-Ups = 21.0 in one minute, 1.5 mile run = 14.46 min and the 300 meter run = 64 sec. Actually from what I have seen around here....you usually get more time for the run portions.

You need to call a Dallas recruiter and find out what are the actual standards. I spoke too one about 5 months ago and the standards that I was giving for the PAT were a joke. I believe the recruiter said you had to do 4 push-ups(no time limit), 10 sit-up(no time limit) and run a mile and a 1/2 in 19 minutes. They could have changed them so, my advise too you would be to give them a call and find out what they want.

The score is an overall score and ends with the run on the treadmill. The better you do on the earlier stuff the less time you have to run to pass. It is in your best interest to do well on the other stuff as the treadmill keeps inclining higher and gets to be a real bear.

Dallas changed the PT test and they no longer use old test with a tread mill. They now use a standard cooper test

Thanks for the update. I would imagine the Cooper test to be quite a bit easier to get a large number of people through in a reasonable amount of time.

hey guys i have a DPD question, a few of us from the Midwest are thinking about coming down and doing the 3 day testing in September. The problem is I know nothing about the city. . . what are the best areas (i.e. safest, wealthiest) areas to live/work in? just want to get a feel for what are the good and bad parts of town. i don't really care about where i end up working i just want to get a cool apartment in a nice part of the city where there are other people in my age bracket (mid twenties)

North Dallas, Addison, Carrollton, Plano, Frisco....those would be your best bets using your guidelines. Addison is quite a popular destination for night life.

OakCliff would be the worst.

Frisco is a great family town but I wouldn't want to live here if I was in my 20's.

Basically anywhere south of I-30. Of course that is a very broad statement and there are exceptions. Most of your nicer communitys will be North of 635. He is correct about Frisco, but it is relatively close to places that you may want to go out too and it is a nice and safe community.
