I think that if I don't get hired by the Ohio Highway Patrol within the next year and a half I'm gonna give it a shot up in NYC. Anyone ever try up there? What's the process like?

Why not process with both at the same time? When the smoke clears hopefully you'll have one job or both. Good luck.

I would try both at the same time it makes more sense

Just try both...i'm an NYPD officer...the process isn't really that long...after you pass the initial written test, the medical..everything else is done pretty fast...the worst part is waiting for the phone call to see if you got in...I took the exam a while ago..so when it was time to go to the academy...I didn't have to wait the night before like a lot of other people. If I were you, I would wait to see what the next PBA contract will be...because its a damn shame what rookies like myself are getting paid...luckily I got on before the pay cut...

I've already taken the OSP test. I got a 90, but they have no idea when their next class is, but they're thinking March of 07. I don't have enough college credits to get into the NYPD yet, but I will after fall quarter. My big thing is getting time off to go up to NYC to go through the phases. I'd love to work up there though.

NorwichGrad05...What's the pay scale as of right now? Do you live in the city? I heard they offer a lot of OT to Rookies?

I would hope that you would not go NYPD being that you are already a LEO!! Their starting pay sucks, then you wil have to spend 6 months in the Academy, then, you will be broke. I did the whole process a few years ago when the pay was reasonable to start off, but decided not to take the pay cutt to put myself so in debt. But...if you so choose too..they do have a Quest program for out of state applicants, good luck.

Um, the pay scale is a lot lower than when I got hired...its on the nypd website. I would wait til the contract talks with the city are over..hopefully soon...they want to raise the salary for recruits...but we don't want to give anything back..so just keep watch on that.

Yeah I live in the city..Brooklyn as a matter of fact. I don't know if you know the layout of NYC, but the city is divided into 5 boroughs..when we say the city..we mean Manhattan..no cop lives there..too expensive..haha!

Yeah, as a rookie, I get a lot of OT...so much, I don't even want it sometimes..but it depends on what house you're in...some houses, the veterans get all the OT, but in my house..rookies get a lot of time...the city sees it as its cheaper to pay us than them...
