I got a call last week to interview with a Sheriff's Department in a county I used to live in about 2 hours from here. Good news, right? Should be. I then find out that a former supervisor of mine from over 10 years ago now works at and is a Sgt. at this department. At the old company (private sector) we initially had a good working relationship, but it deteriorated over time, and by the time I left the company, we did not part on amicable terms. I'll say right off the bat that some was my doing, and some his. He was a difficult supervisor, but on the same token, I was no model employee either. I'm not going to paint myself as an angel in no form or fashion. I must also add that he is retired from the state police, whether that makes any impact or not. Many of the deputies there are retired city, county and state LEOs, primarily from the local area.

I don't know if he is still harboring a grudge and tell them "don't hire this *******", or if the passage of time will make any difference and just allow bygones to be bygones. IF I get hired here, and that's a big "if", I'm more than willing to start on a clean slate with him. I've matured a lot since then, and just want to get to work and do the job.

Is going to this interview a waste of time, or should I just roll the dice and see what happens? Thank you in advance for your input.

Look at it this way, if you do not go to the interview, you will not get the job. Atleast if you go, you still have a chance

plus if he is already retired he probably wont be there for much longer, see what happens i would take it if you want the job.

JPD and Shaund..Thank you for your replies..I'm going to go to the interview, roll the dice and hope for the best. Like you said, if I don;t try, I don't have a chance.
