Does anyone know how long it takes to receive final hiring approval from Federal Law Enforcement Agencies? My package was sent to DEA headquarters at least 4 weeks ago, and I haven't heard anything yet. (I heard a roomer it takes about three weeks). Does a longer time period indicate anything negative or positive?
Any insight is appreciated.
Thanks!

What stage of the process are you in??? Did you pass the initial interview, drug, medical, phyisical, poly, b/g .....etc???? Federal Law Enforcement takes forever. A minumum of 9-12 months for a special agent job, but I know people that waited 2-3 years. Depends on your B/G, the budget , duty location and hiring needs of the agency.

You also have to consider that unlike most other 1811 Special Agent positions, the DEA BAT course is done at the Q and not at FLETC. As such, courses do not run as often as the CITP course at FLETC (i.e. your wait may include waiting for a slot in the next BAT class to open).
Also the 'wait' times to get on board with ANY federal agency are not alike. As a matter of fact, you can have two people applying at the same time for the same agency, yet have totally different 'wait' times....

I got hired in December by DOJ....and it took till March before I got to start the job.....and not until May until all my clearances got taken care of......
We (DOJ) do our own stuff then turn over the results to OPM....so mine went pretty fast compared to the rest of the FLEOs out there.....

I'm at the final step, HQ panel approval. I passed all other steps mentioned above.
I saw some postings of people that were approved for hire, and noticed that most of them received word within 3 weeks. I guess I was wondering if longer than 3 weeks meant they were taking their time to write me a thin letter, or something to that effect. (hopefully not).
Has anyone out there made it all the way through the process and received an infamous thin letter of rejection? If so, how long did take to receive the letter, from the time you were advised your package was sent to HQ for approval?
