I recently applied at a Sheriifs office in FL, recieved a job offer. I do all the testing and pass all. The Sheriffs Office does a background investigation.
I have been a LEO for over 5yrs. in MI. My current employer sends them everything, my whole personnel file which includes a couple reprimands which are bull**** including one that is currently in the grievance process which I should win.

Well to make a long story short I was denied employment in FL because of "disciplinary actions taken." A little bit about my current department, they will write you up for anything in a second and everyone at the PD has had disciplinary action. I have never benn suspended or anything.

Has anyone else here felt like their stuck at thier job and can't get out because of this before? Is your current employer even supposed to send this stuff? I thought they could only say if you work there and how long you worked there. So frustrating.

Give the FL department a call and try to explain yourself. Give them an understanding of what has happened. I don't know the extent to the reprimands, but you should be able to speak with someone and try to plead your case.

Usually your "file" is your 201 Personnel File and yes all LE agencies you apply to can have access to them. You yourself can request a copy and should request one so you know whats going on.

With 5 yrs on the job as you stated, I would think you would know about this. Best of Luck.

When you applied to the dept in Fla, among those big stacks of papers you filled out was probably a release for so that Flint could release your file to them

I always wondered myself if departments didnt make sure you had some garbage in your file so that you wouldnt be able to go to another department

If that last investigation is still pending you might want to reapply or explain after it is completed. I know some agencies will flat out not consider anyone who is currently being investigated until it is done. Good luck!!

Sounds like BSO to me.

Its Collier Co..I am sure it was due to primarily the recent reprimand which is bs. My department reprimanded me for being the senior ofc. onscene and not having the primary ofc. collect evidence and she wasn't even a "rookie" LEO either. There was also a Sgt. onscene. Thats another issue that my PD is dealing with and I won't get into that one.
That is the type of PD i work for, its not Flint PD but just outside Flint.

I know exactly how you feel. And I think the above is right. A smart employer will make sure to have a few write ups or something on file so that 1. they can fire you for almost any reason and fall back on it as a history of discipline, and 2. to make it seem like their such good people giving you the chance to work in LE and all dispite all of the write ups for "changing the backround picture on a department computer" or "letting a bad word slip".

Yeah, I'm kinda bitter. I know how you feel. The worse part of it is that they (upper administration) doesn't have the decency to tell you like it is. They play these games. And dispite how hard you try, you can't stay out of the politics completly.

Call the SO. A good BI will see through it. Of course it also depends on how close your administrators are to those of the SO administrators. I feel for you man. But keep trying. It's being able to put up with this kind of crap not only from the public, but from our own that makes us strong inside.
