I passed the written exam now the meds. I'm concerned about a perscription I just finished taking for high cholesteral (Lipitor). Anybody know if it is an auto reject? Also a guy who I took the written with told me that hemmorhoids are auto reject. Any feedback appreciated.

Not an expert on hiring, but from what I have seen the medical is to make sure you dont have any problems that would prevent you from doing your daily job- I seriously doubt that taking cholestrol medicine would DQ you...
Possibly if you had very high BP that was untreated, but not cholestrol..

I was just curious to know if they can DQ you for having an STD? I know the military can. Would you want someone who has aids providing first aide attention to you?

It depends from department to department. What may be an auto-DQ for one department may be acceptable for another. However, as long as a drug is legally prescribed, and you inform your background investigator about it, I don't believe it should be an issue. I'd contact a BI for the department you tested for an verify that, though.
As far as the hemmies go, unless they interfere with your ability to do your job, you should be okay. My dad, and a couple other officers I knew when I was an officer in Alaska, had hemmorhoids and that didn't prevent them from working for years.
Good luck!

The threshold at which you are put on Lipitor is lower than it used to be. I just got my physical results back and my total chol is 170. They now call that "borderline". A coule years ago that reading would get me a high five from the Dr.
The hemmorhoids may be an issue because the department may be over their quota. I know we have more than enough hemmorhoids on my department and most of them wear white shirts

It is my understanding that most departments do consider an STD as an auto DQ. They do test for them during the medical exam but I would suppose it would depend on the state standards and the department's policy. The department I was at did DQ any candidates if they tested positive for STD's. If it's a concern, I'd contact the department and find out exactly what their stand on that is.
As far as someone with AIDS giving me first aid, if it saved my life, and as long as they didnt have any open wounds, sores, or tried taking...er...liberties with me while I was incapacitated, I'd care less. But, hey, that's just me.

Ever hear of the Americans with Disabilities Act? Elimination for consideration for a position of employment based upon a health condition is prohibited.
