Did anyone else apply for the FDIC OIG position that was advertised with a close date of 16 Feb 2006. There were 34 1811 positions open at four cities. The system still says application received. However, there has been no other contact on their part. The phone numbers on the announcement are no good, and the e-mail address bounces back as not deliverable. I even tried to use thier e-mail link off of thier page. Still nothing. I have heard from all of the other services I applied to, and have recieved three offers, but as a former finance guy FDIC seems like the most interesting.

I managed to track down the POC for the announcement. I have not been able to get her on the line though.
They are also announcing an 1802 Investigative assistant position at the
GS-8 level at the OIG. Is this considered an entry level position that could lead to an 1811 Special Agent designator, or is it just a secretary's position?

If you got an 1811 offer and that is what you want to do grab it. You can be-bop around to any other OIG you want once you get your foot in the door. Back when I applied with the feds a 100 years ago it took them almost 2 years to get around to processing me. Needless to say, by then I was too rooted where I was.

Yes, the investigative assistant positions are usually secretary type positions within OIG's. However some people take them to get their "foot in the door." It will not only give you 'status' as a federal employee to apply for other positions such as 1811 slots, but also MAY get you noticed in your office as a good candidate for any upcoming Special Agent positions.
However with said, I know someone that took one of those administrative jobs thinking it would land them an 1811 slot, and it didn't. It had nothing to do with the person, rather $$$. Why spend all the money to send someone to FLETC, when you can hire someone who is already an 1811 (Special Agent) at another agency? This is not always going to be the case, but right now budgets at smaller agencies are getting tighter.
