Anyone know what the process is like for LA Ports? Also what is their pay, equipment and morale like?

Go to the LA City Website. It gives you an outline of the App Process and Info about the department.

Also, The Written Test can be applied towards LAPD, LAXPD, LA General Services, and LA Port Police.

Good Luck !

Anyone here work for them? I am just wondering what a typical day is like. I think it would be a good fit for me coming from the Coast Guard.

I've been on two ride-alongs with them. Their land area mostly consists of the area directly next to the water. Of course, they patrol the stretch of water in the harbor until you go out into open water.

They respond to any call originating within their patrol area they are 830.1PC agency. They don't do residentials because those areas belong to LAPD. Their main patrol area on land is Berths 28-400 something. Ports O'Call is theirs. Even though they don't do house calls they do have a hotel or two where they've responded to domestic violence calls. Also, on one of my ride-alongs the officer responded to a possible meth-lab at one of those live-aboard boat homes.

Aahhh, the "floating trailer parks"LOLOLOLOLOL- haven't hung out with the Port PD guys since my ridealongs before the Sgts interviews for Port PD.jurisdiction is about 20 sq miles( port area),including the water up to the breakwaters -1 sq mile out of the harbor.standard issue is the .40 cal sig, AR-15, and they have a nice MDS set up- currently they are trying for 100- 120 officers ( current deployment is 75)-Port cops have the Marine inv team, boat patrol, dive team, bike patrol,Dets,K-9s, but will soon be field an SRT unit, and will soon start changing their patrol cars from wht to Blk and Whts.Honestly- a "hidden secret" in policing in So.Calif- real laid back work environment and a good Leader-Chief Ron Boyd.Less political B.S. than at LAXPD (LAPDs not often trying to f*ck over the Ports PD) for more info ,check out http://www.portoflosangeles.org/about_portpolice.htm
-my attidude is "Get in where you fit in"-there are lots of Depts out there that are hiring and can provide you with opportunities, good pay and action- don't limit yourself to a Dept because of its "hype" (LAPD) or because everybody else is applying for it- do the research, see if you "fit" before you apply........
