Like manay here, Im seeking a career in the Law Enforcement. I have been in the military for 6 years, and have served all of it with good marks and honors.

When Applying for the job, they ask you about your current employment, and if you mind them contacting them. That is where the problem is...

After returning from my 2nd tour in Iraq, we switched bosses. My new boss doesnt like me at all, and he even has blatantly mentioned a few times. If the police where to contact him he would obviously not have any positive comments to say.

How can I have this not affect me? its is a bit unfair to have the last 6 years of military career judged by my most recent supervisor, instead of my previous achievements and supervisors.

Im open to suggestions. thanks for any responses!

I don't think it will be as big a problem as you think.

When a supervisor bad mouths a subordinate, the BI usually makes a beeline for the employee's performance evaluations to see if what is being said has been properly documented and substantiated. If it has not, this raises a big red flag and suggests the supervisor is lying. The BI will then turn to previous supervisors and coworkers to see if he is getting a straight story.

Tell your BI ahead of time about the problem and suggest that he check your performance evaluations against anything negative that might be said. I don't know the retention period for you branch of the service, but gather together any copies of previous evaluations and have them available to show the BI that your performance has been satisfactory.
