I am trying to get into Law Enforcement at the city level. I live in Frankilin county and wat to stay close to home if I can. Within 70 miles or so for classes.

I know there is an academy at MU in Columbia. I looked at there website and was impressed. I know there is an academy in Waynesville.

What others are there? Which one are the best? Will any certain ones look better on a resume than others?

Plus this is my first post here and I am sure I will have ALOT more asking ALOT more questions! This is the BEST LE forum I have found!

Missouri Southern State College in Joplin has one of if not the best academy in the state. It's a bit of a trip for you though!

Through my own research I found out the academy in Waynesville is the "Missouri Sheriffs Training Academy". They have a web-site, but not much info. I have some time off next week and I plan on doing as much as I can to find out more info about their course.

Does anyone else here know anything more about them?

I went through the St. Charles Academy, it was great when I went through it. Though, I have heard there have been some major changes so I do not know how things are being run now.

A friend of mine just went through LETI at MU and said it was a pretty good academy. From the looks of the slide show at graduation, I'd say they did a lot and had good training.

I've always heard St. Charles was one of the best.

Got you....

My academy had a deal with the local University that sponsored them to let cadets live in the dorms. Of course, that started the class after mine. Not sure how much it costs....

Only other academy that has live-in stuff is Missouri State Highway Patrol. You live there the entire time.....

I think the Missouri Police Corps Academy south of St. Louis might offer live-in stuff....but I am not sure of that...

there is also st louis county's police academy in north st louis county.....
you might want to double check whether mineral springs (missouri police corps) is still certified... i heard rumors that they were losing there Accreditation...... but it could be just rumors...
I recently looked into st charles county's academy (thats where my husband attended several years ago) i was pretty impressed... its not cheap.. but they also offer a part time evening academy... hope this helps.

I'm not trying to bring to life a dead thread, but the Police Corps, at least in Park Hills, is no more. They pulled the funding, just in case anyone was interested.
