I took the C.O.P.S. written exam this past Saturday, May 6th. The test consisted of 10 parts most containing anywhere from 5 to 40 questions each. With various time limits from 2 to 5 minutes to complete each part. The test is designed so you can not finish any given section. They want to see how well you work under stress. After taking the test I have come to the conclusion that I either did very well, or very bad... Is there anyone here that has had expereince with this test and could shed some light on what goes into the grading and so on.

Thanks,
Paul

What's the C.O.P.S. test? Which city?

I took the Island Lake test administered by C.O.P.S.

I thought for sure I flunked it when I left.... to my surprise, I got called back for a group oral last Friday. One thing I found interesting was the fact about 90 or so of us took the test, and only about 35 passed on to take the group oral. We'll find out this week how we rank on the preliminary list. I'll keep you updated......

Yeah, I had the exact feeling when I walked out. I'm starting to think I didn't flunk but I'm not sure. I was getting really nervous during the test. I only finished three sections completely and the others were 60-80% complete. I had a real problem on the memory. I remembered everything but the suspect names so some of the stuff was really hard to match up.

I started getting really ****ed at myself but then I looked around (we were all at tables 4-5 people) and saw most people were only getting 20-30% through the parts... So that made me feel a little better. They say you can't prepare for those tests but the ARCO book I picked up helped greatly. I was able to get through the entire judgement/common sense section because of that book (25 questions in 4 min). I strongly suggest it to anyone still testing, do all the practice tests inside. They won't be the exact questions but the form of question will be the same. This helps you practice noticing key points in those questions so you can zip right through them and not loose valuable time.

I took the test twice for lockport, and flunked it twice. It really frustrates me taking that test. The first part with the shapes imagining them folded really screwed me. I was going to take it again for bourbonais comming up this week but I am not in the mood to do a physical agility and then take the cops test to find out I flunk it again!! Maybe I might check out that study book.

I took the COPS test for Oakbrook Terrace, and I failed. I knew I did. I totally screwed up on one of the tests. I got to the end and realized I missed one and all of my answers were for the wrong one, just not sure when or where I screwed up. The test was terrible. I could barly read it, the test booklet was poorly copied. Words were cut off, and piictures were barley readible. It sucked. I will never take that test again. It should be abolished. I don't know how anyone passes that test if the booklets are in that condition everywhere.

Well, I finally got the initial eligibility list for Island Lake. I made the top 10. There was about 90 or so people who took the written C.O.P.S. test... about 35 passed that... then only 23 of us passed the oral interview...

COPS testing service gives practice tests at thier office in schaumburg periodically. It is costly at $25 for a 1 hour session. They basically give you a scaled down test and are put under the exact same situations as you would when you actually test. You can call 1 847 310 2677 to set up a practice test. You are not given a score on it but you are given the correct answers and then you can compare them with those in your group to see how you did. My opinion on this test is that it basically an IQ test. Take an online IQ test and that should gauge your potential for doing well on this test.
