What are your guy’s opinions of KCMO PD? I have been looking into applying there. Any input would be appreciated. Do you have to live in the city if work for them? Also, how was the academy? I here they are building a new academy. I am from out of state and don't know much about the city.
Thanks

Yes, they are building a new academy. I think KCPD is either a love it or hate it type of agency, because that's the two responses I've consistently received from officer there. I have a couple of very good friends who work there and love it, but I've talked to others who have left and just couldn't stand it.
You do have to live within the city, which encompasses four counties, so there is plenty of places to live. There are some really bad parts of KCMO and some really nice parts that you wouldn't even know you were in KC.
The academy is paramilitary and 6 months long. It's a day academy though, meaning you don't have to live there, just commute back and forth every day.
I'm sure the academy is pretty tough, as it should be.
The money isn't TOO bad, but living in the city isn't very appealing to a lot of people. The equipment is pretty ****-poor though. They still have some of the old style Ford LTD's in service from before the new body style change in 1992. They are detectives cars, but Patrol is still running some 93's and 94's as far as I know. One of my friends that works there says most cars have well over 200,000 miles on them.
There are a lot of pro-minority groups always trying to make KCPD look bad too, but that's just part of working in an urban community I guess.
If you're looking into the KC area, I would highly suggest the Kansas side. The retirement, money and equipment is much better. I have some intel on most of the KC area PD's if you have some specific questions.
Oh yeah, and KCPD's selection process is weird. It all depends on their affirmative action quota as to who they hire each time basically.
