We went to our annual Beaches Opening today. I really looked forward to the crafts and things to see. We came home, very diasppointed. All it was was a gathering for almost dressed teens and young adults. We saw people, mainly young men, getting arrested left and right. There were hardly any crafts, the food looked disgusting (curried goat???????) and the young people were really wild.
I noticed that it was mainly young men getting arrested and usually for having words with the cops. There was a lot of drinking so the poor cops had their hands full.
I was really disappointed and disgusted at our festival this year. We left afyer a half an hour when we usually stayed hours. http://www.officer.com/ubb/frown.gif

I was most impressed with the police. They had zero tolerance. One group of young men were told they couldn't bring their bikes into a more populated area. One mouthed off at a cop and, wham, bam, he was down and handcuffed! We were most impressed! I'm sure the police get sick of the smart mouthed ones. And the girls! The new fashion was to wear a bikini and shorts over the bottom. Then, they leave their zipper to the shorts all the way down. I'm sure the men found it enjoyable but I found it disgusting. Some of these girls were much too young to be doing this.
One young lady was standing there is a bikini with a huge diamond (real?) piercing her naval. She looked ridiculous and my husband started laughing. She didn't like that too much and said something to him. We kept walking and she kept mouthing. A cop tapped her on the shoulder and said, "I'm only going to count to one." She shut up real quick like! LOL! Seriously, this girl and a bikini and a diamond didn't go together! LOL!
I would get my naval pierced if people wopuldn't laugh at the old lady with a pierced naval you can't see! LOL! http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif

This is a problem that is widespread in our present day society and imho the root cause is the moral breakdown of families. Where are the parents of these children? How did they get out the front door dressed like that? What kind of an example do the mothers show their daughters in the way they dress, how they conduct themselves, their manner of speech etc. Do our schools have a dress code and do they inforce it? Do parents know what kind of books their offspring are reading or what movies and t.v. shows they are watching? These young minds that are being filled with garbage could be future teachers, artists, doctor, poets, authors. Such a horrendous waste of talent! I see it almost everyday and am only capable of making a minute difference, if any at all. It is heartbreaking to be a teacher with a gifted student who is going down the road to self-destruction.

End of Rant !!!!!

One thing I've noticed is that it's not just the kids. At several "special events" that have been promoted and put on by local businesses, there has been encouragement of vulgarity and nudity (wet T-shirt contests, etc). While I have no problem observing female nudity http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif , I do have a problem with MC's and so forth promoting "showing the bush" at public events.

This recently happened at a "special event" here.

What has happened to the public morals?

Just an opinion..........

I know how you feel JKT. I was very uncomforable with it. They really promoted and exploited the women. The Hooter girls were there, women and girls in thong bikinis, etc. Dirty Dancing, you name it. Some even came on to my husband and I didn't appreciate it. There were even some women my age there acting like that. They looked SO stupid. Everyone was drinking, hanging off each other. One lady actually stopped my husband and said, "Hi, honey". She was my age and enjoyed doing that to me. I told her if she wanted to keep her fake boobs, she better back off. She did. http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif Then, I gave my husband a glare that I'm sure curled his toes. He didn't HAVE to stop. I'm barely speaking to him now. I don't put up with that stuff.
It was disgusting.

Jack,

This sort of thing has been coming for a long time. We overlooked the first symptoms and now we have a full blown disease that is slowly eating away at society. If you put a frog in boiling water it will jump out of the pot, but if you put one in luke warm water and turn the heat up slowly it will stay in the pot. That's basically what is happening to us. People are becoming desensitised to immoral behaviour. http://www.officer.com/ubb/frown.gif

I really was disgusted by what I saw. A friend of mine went down there and came back like me. Truly disgusted. She said she saw so many people being arrested, women also. She said this really beautiful young woman was arrested when she flashed a young cop. Must have broken his heart but he did his job. The evening was even worse, I understand, after a day of sun and drinking.
Some of our poor homeles people were down there panhandling and getting arrested. There were, of course, hookers abounding too.
I won't be going next year.

I hear what you mean about the festival, Mitzi. I went to Houston's Annual Internation Festival, this year featuring Ireland. I have to say, the number of booths with quality work was down and the number of wild punk teens and arrests was going up. I don't think I've ever seen more cops at the festival than this year http://www.officer.com/ubb/frown.gif oh well...
