Looking for some help fellows.

About a year ago my dept. authorized all officers inside the jail to go to a traditional BDU uniform (blue in color). The catch was any officers that the admin. decided had to much public contact had to remain in class A's. For example the officers bidded to the jail lobby information desk and the magnetometer to said lobby. Now the rub is, if any of these officers takes an unscheduled day off any officer can fill in at one of these posts regardless of which uniform they are wearing. If a inmate has to go to the hospital they don't care what uniform the officers taking the inmate are wearing, even though that seems to be pretty "public" to me. If an officer is on the SORT and/or SWAT team and wins a bid to the lobby he/she can wear their black BDUs. Basically, this seems like another one of those retarded admin. decisions that wasn't really thought through.

Now that the background is out of the way here is the question, finaly.

My unit is completly outside the facility and on the street every day and night and we would like the option of wearing the BDUS even if it was just the mid and late watch officers allowed to do so.

Where can I find a list of depts. that authorize their street officers to wear BDUs?

Or a really good argument to sway the admin.

Any help would be appreciated and I apologize for the long windedness of the post.

I wish I could wear BDU's.

I would get them several sizes too big

Then I would tuck them inside my boots so they looked like parachute pants

Then I would do an M. C. Hammer dance

Too legit....To legit to quit.....

Our Dept. all wear BDU's pants w/polo shirt. We have the option to wear the top BDU too... A few of the CO will wear a class A on some days, and you wear your best to court.

Alot of department don't like the BDU uniforms for regular patrol becuase of the SWAT look, stormtrooper look. They like the professional look of Class A unies. At my department we are issued the BLauer Streetgear unies. The pants are the cargo style with the pockets on the legs. But our chief still wears the regular uniform pants without the pockets and so do most supervisors.

As far as our Corrections goes, our CERT has always worn black BDU's the regular CO's just switched to blue BDU's. Our regular lobby officers wear their Class "A" uniforms. With our road patrol the only ones that wear BDU's are K-9 and anyone on special assignments with ERT.

oddly enough, this "hat" thread talks a bit about the pros and cons of BDU gear.

My department issues both class A (Flescheimer) and BDU from Blauer Streetgear. The BDUs still look professional as long as they're dry-cleaned ... which the dept. also provides.

I'd much rather wear the normal day to day dress uniform. I'd like the BDU's if I were doing tactical work, but I take pride in looking good everyday.
