Garner PD is currently doing my background investigation. I am just wondering what do agency's actually look at? It is like any other job when a potential employer calls up your references to see what kind of work you really are?

They look at everything in your F-3. They take your name and DOB and flip flop it and see what turns up. They check your record if you lived in another state. The do the same with your name and DOB if you lived in another state. They talk to other PD's you applied for and were turned down. There are alot of things to be done. They talk to past employers if you were let go. When I used to do backgrounds I looked at everything

Depends on the department. Some are very thorough while others do the basics.

The one thing you can control is your references. List those who are responsible. I listed some of my friends that are police officers, a firefighter, and a Dr I knew.
I would let my references know to expect a call from my BI, even after you ask to use them as a reference.
