View Full Version : Why do women cry?

For no apparent reason, my wife has spent all afternoon on the verge of tears...and SHE doesn't even know WHY.....

CinaC
01-01-2003, 09:11 PM
I can tell you why.

She's upset that you spend all day either on the computer, working, or complaining about today's youth. She wants you to take her out to a candelight dinner and spend a quiet night with her -- NO TV! It doesn't help that she's feeling old because her daughter is about to get married -- which means she's really close to being a grandmother, and she's probably worried that said daughter and said future son-in-law aren't planning on waiting for the wedding date to knock boots so she might already BE a grandmother and not just know it yet, and oh, drat, she's really crying 'cuz poor ol' Crazy had to work New Years Eve (and DAY!) and is tripping on the natural intoxication known as "lack of sleep combined with actute headpounding headache."

More plausible explanation.. Is she PMS'ing?

shooter1201

She had a hysto 3 years ago...is on hormone therapy, etc, etc, etc...

CiaJ, my man...you may be onto something!

You didn't buy her an apron or a vacuum cleaner or a box of Ajax or something for Christmas, did you? "That's all I am to him, a maid he gets to have sex with, why couldn't he buy me a nice sharp knife to carve him up with argh stupid men."

who knows why, you should put your arms around her and tell her everything is OK and she can cry if she feels like it. Sometimes it helps to just cry and then things seem better... It's probably not too big of a deal or she'd already be crying....

If that doesn't work, you could start crying and then she'll be too busy comforting you to worry about herself...

01-01-2003, 09:29 PM
I ran her a hot bubblebath....hugged her...even offered to shave her legs(she's too smart for that).

CiaJ...she has her own knife collection, thank you.

Fastie

you say that like it's a BAD thing... LOL....

how about giving her a nice massage... snuggle with her.... maybe suggest she eats some nice carb food (her serotonin levels might be whacky).... don't leave her alone until she gets sick of you and tells you to leave.... :D

You didn't forget an important date did you???

damn Fastie... you're depressing me lol! i've been crying for weeks, and all i have for comfort is my dog beside me licking my arm! :(

shooter1201

Dates?

Her birthday is Sept 18...our Anniverary is May 16....we just had Christmas...LOL

Fastie
01-01-2003, 09:47 PM
Don't cry Jelly, I'm sorry... If I was there I would give you a hug !! Maybe it's this time of year. I was crying a couple days ago... something about someone not having time for me... but seemed to have plenty of time for 'chat rooms'.... (nobody on here knows him)...

I'm sure if shooter pressed the issue (in a kind way)... his wife probably has some idea why she's feeling sad... I think it's pretty rare to feel sad for absolutely no reason.. and in that case, better go to the doctor !!!

jellybean40
01-01-2003, 09:50 PM
yes youre right.

and i know the reasons for me. (((((((Fastie))))))) thanks as for the one that didnt have time for you... his loss. he would have had more fun with YOU.

i think you all gave Shooter good advice... even the hormone therapy could contribute to it.

OK..so I'm NEVER home during the holidays.I work a LOT(!) during the holidays to give OTHER guys time with their families.

Our daughter has been home with us for 3 weeks. She goes back to college Next week.

We have to put up all the Christmas decorations(I love Christmas time)...and we had a BEAUTIFUL tree this year.

Her hormone treatments may be out of whack.
Anything else?

I cry when I hear a sad song and anytime I see my son be put through more. It could be post Christmas Blues.
It may mean she needs aan antidepressant. I had a crying jag a few months ago that wouldn't stop. My dr put me on short term valium and Paxil. It helped a great deal. My H is like you...He wants to help but doesn't kow why I cry. The tears are much les since the paxil.
It could also be that your daughter is gone...empty nest syndrome is really hard.

Did she tell you those things? or are you simply stating facts... I'd be crying by now too... with that attitude !!! ... PS, I love christmas time too... not too many guys are into the whole decorations thing... you don't expect her to take it all down herself do you???

Shooter, I can't help ya out. WOmen cry for various reasons. Maybe its just because things are happening. Changes are happening and she can't do anythign about it. I don't know, but anxiety does weird things to people.

Lately I find myself on teh verge of "happy tears" Like bittersweetness. Like a big DOPE, I actually let one or two fall in front of my BF and the only thing he says (which is comforting), You're so beautiful when you cry. I hide my face and he just prys my hands away and says.. "let me look at you". That makes me cry more. I never had anyone so sweet. Maybe she just thinks you are "so sweet."

Just tell her she's beautiful. Find a compliment. Yanno.. something corny but sweet.

Good Luck. :)

shooter,
sometimes we just need to cry. It may be nothing or she just doesn't want to tell anybody what it is. Don't spend too much time trying to figure it out, as near as i can tell there isn't a man on earth that understands women or why women feel and act the way we do. I know my hubby is stumped. Just be loving and try not to let it bother you too much.

I am not a sensitive type so I don't cry much but when I do it's because I need to let whatever I am unhappy with out of my system.

Well....she seems fine this morning. Thanks for all the insights, suggestions, etc.

Fastie...

I didn't tell her those things. I was simply stating facts. Oh, yeah...I DO love Christmas. I love the warmth that seems to fill our house when the tree, decorations, cards, presents, etc get put out.

shooter-
You sound like as close to a perfect husband as you can get...maybe she's crying because she's HAPPY! We do that, too.

Hey Rachel....PMS??? That's the only time I can be myself!LMAO

My husband has no earthly idea what to do when I cry. He usually just goes in his office. But I had almost a breakdown after my son's last brain surgery and that caught his attention when I didn't want it to. I went out to the laundry room to cry and before I knew it, there he was. He actually put his arms around me and told me he was taking me to the dr.
At the dr, my tars still flowed and I became angry. I was yelling at him and at the dr. He did very well. He just sat and held my hand and when the dr had this smirky look on his face, I took it off. lol I was put on meds for awhile which helped but my tears are very deeply based on all we have all been through.
But, generally, my husband doen't know what to do bout my tears so he does nothing.

I think she was just feeling 'blue', what with the post-Christmas blahs, our daughter, her Master's program(which she has decided is a dead-end pursuit)work, etc.

Earlier last evening, I'd been talking with my folks about the house they were going to build for their retirement home. It'll be situated on 300+ acres we have in NW Alabama. I wanted input on it as it will stay in our family. My family is the only one to ever had title to the land. It was homesteaded in the 1850s.

ANYway...it's in a fairly remote setting. My wife has repeatedly stated she will NEVER live there, as it is 'too far' from 'everything'. I made the comment 'I'll miss you.' Yeah.....BAD move.....

Who knows....?

No kiddin Mitzi. Shooter,If I were your wife... I'd go with a response that would sound poetic... "Then you're gonna die,...(short pause for effect)...Old.....and Alone."

Then I'd smile and walk out of the room dramatically. :) :o

I get depressed sometimes when I think about the mistakes I made when I was young. I won't get a chance to go back in time and fix the mistakes so I feel life has passed me by and I didn't do such a great job the one and only chance I had.

I'm basically a cheerful, happy person so these moods don't last long and I never cry about it.

Why do women cry?

Well, because they are women. It's a beautiful thing, really. And I love her all the more because of it.

I started back to school a couple of months ago after many years of being away. It's hard and I'm sure that has something to do with her feelings. Especially if she doesn't see the benefit of finishing.

Why don't you bring her some flowers the day after your daughter goes back to college, 'just because'... or even today ... and tell her how much you love her, maybe even apologize for your "joke"... women eat this stuff up !!! :D

Update:

She's decided NOT to take any classes this Spring semester....and she hasn't cried today....she's currently in bed with a migraine(she's had it for 3 days)....and the rain isn't helping.
