In February I have found 7 shanks in routine area search such as mop closet and water fountains. In March I have found another 6. Just recently I got a letter from a unidentified inmate ( found in outgoing mail ) stating there is currently a handgun and cell phone on our compound and a big escape plot with some Spanish inmates. I searched some common area inside the dorm its claimed to be in and only came up with a few shanks. There hasn't been any tension on the compound that I have noticed. I conduct urinalysis and have found a raise in positive results. I think because we just hired 45 new officers
(mostly young and females) some are corrupt.

Anyone have a abundance of weapons lately on their compound?

So what do you normally do when you find that amount of weapons in your unit?
The old Pen I worked in before retiring, they would do a surprise search of the whole building at one time, and strip out each and every I/M and do a complete body search too. They would bring in as many cops as they could muster up for it.
Make it known that there is trouble brewing before somebody (an officer) gets hurt or worse, killed.

I haven't found anything in a while. But that's mostly because I've been sitting at a desk job and not out looking. Still, we do run across a fair share of shanks. The last one I found was a single edge razor blade taped between two tongue depressors.

I have recently found 2 shanks in 2 days. Both of them in cells of inmates who are currently in custody for 187 PC (murder). One inmate admitted to possessing and the manufacture because he said it was for "self protection". Apparantly the uncle of the vicitm that he killed is on the same tier as him. He said that the uncle approached him and told him that if he finds out that he killed his nephew, he will get him. Wrote a crime report and he is now looking at 3 additional years for possessing a shank, worse, it will look really bad during his murder trial. Looks like i'd better get my "Class A" uniforms ready.

On a side note, I do know there has been a TON of gang violence here in California between the Surenos, Blacks, Nortenos, and Whites. The Surenos also are not happy that we have them in Protective Custody status and make them wear brown shirts (like the child molesters). They have threatened to riot.

We did a search of the unit at about 2am today. Locked up 5 for weapons, drugs and tattoo paraphernalia. Never found the so called handgun and phone though.

Have the inmates been purchasing more commissary than usual? I'm sure you know that and the other telltale signs that something, such as a riot, could be coming.
