We really need to stand-up and take another step towards the law. We need to make a Law where heartless people who would want to kill a cop and put them to death. If criminals knew they would get the death Penality for this action, then maybe they will think twice about killing another cop. This person knew that she was a Deputy Sheriff when they decided to pull the trigger.

^^^^True. I just figured that the suspect did know she was a LEO, due to the fact it happen in a middle class area at her house. Things like this just don't happen by mistake. From what I heard, there was nothing taken, just shots fired. Someone knew about her.

I am all for the death penalty, especially when the victim was known by the suspect to be an LEO. In this case, though, from where are you getting the info that the shooter KNEW that Maria was a deputy?! (especially since you later posted that there are no suspects)
Also, I've been hearing (second/third hand info) widely differing accounts (including injuries sustained) of what happened from different sources - accurate info is still a little scarce right now.
BTW, the few times I ever met Maria, she always gave me the impression of being a good person and deputy.
so sad, my heart to her family, and co-workers. I could be wrong, but did the report say she was on her way to work? Maybe the shooter, just saw a Sheriffs Uniform and decided to shoot, out of hate for all law enforcement officers. Just a thought.

:( Definately R.I.P we are losing far to many officers this year already  This one for some reason smells of a domestic situation to me right now, however that doesn't matter.Death penalty for murder period. An eye for an eye. However when it is a LEO,I am all for having a team on hand to resucitate, just so we can do it to them again...

LA deputy may have accidentally killed herself, officials say
Associated Press
LONG BEACH, Calif. - A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy who was found fatally injured in a friend's driveway may have accidentally shot herself, Sheriff Lee Baca said.
Maria Cecelia Rosa, 30, a six-year department veteran, was found slumped over the open trunk of her car early Tuesday with a gunshot wound to her upper body, police said. The positions of her body and condition of her gun suggest she may have accidentally fired it as she loaded equipment into her car, Baca said.
"My hope is it is an accidental discharge," Baca said. "The body was in a position to add some credence to that."
Baca and Long Beach police, however, said the case remains under investigation and homicide has not been ruled out.
Nearby residents cast doubt on the accident scenario, saying they heard between four and six gunshots.
"I heard four gunshots, quick, right in a row. Then there was a pause and one shot and then a pause and another shot," said neighbor Erica Moreno.
Investigators combed the neighborhood for about six hours after the shooting, fanning out in all directions and speaking with residents on surrounding blocks. Two K-9 units were brought in, but the dogs were not deployed.
"It honestly is not clear what did occur," Long Beach Police Sgt. David Cannan said.
Rosa, known as "Sessy," owned a home in Pomona but had spent the night at the Eucalyptus Avenue home of a fellow deputy, Jenny Martin. Rosa sometimes stayed there to cut down on her commute, according to Martin's relatives.
A native of Sonora, Mexico, Rosa worked at the sheriff's Inmate Reception Center at the central jail in downtown Los Angeles.
She was the second L.A. County sheriff's deputy to die in less than a week. On Thursday, Deputy Pierre Bain, 45, a 14-year veteran of the force, was killed in an on-duty motorcycle accident in Lancaster.

GAWD....how bout we let the investigation play out before we let media dictate how it happened. officer down scenes are a CF and nobody ( not even the cheif or sheriff)has a good handle on what happened until the investigation is complete  .

Deputy's death ruled homicide
LBPD says robbery likely motive
By Tracy Manzer, Staff writer
LONG BEACH - Police suspect robbery was the motive in the slaying of a sheriff's deputy found Tuesday in a friend's driveway.
It was not an accidental shooting and evidence collected at the scene indicates that the deputy's gun wasn't fired, said Long Beach Police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.
Sheriff Lee Baca had speculated that the position of 30-year- old Deputy Maria Cecelia Rosa's body indicated she may have shot herself while putting equipment in the back of her car as she prepared to go to work that morning.
The injured 30-year-old deputy was found by a passer-by around 6 a.m. in the 2900 block of Eucalyptus Avenue and rushed to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Nearby residents said they heard between four and six gunshots.
Rosa, a native of Sonora, Mexico, joined the Sheriff's Department in July 2000 and had worked at the Inmate Reception Center in Downtown Los Angeles throughout her law enforcement career.
Known as affectionately by family and friends as "Cessy," the slain deputy owned a home in Pomona but had spent the night at the Eucalyptus Avenue home of a fellow deputy, Jenny Martin. Rosa sometimes stayed there to cut down on her commute and had lived with Martin before buying her home in Pomona, according to Martin's relatives.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Sadly, the death penalty is not really a good deterrent for these cop killers. It is a good deterrent for people law-abiding citizens, and rational-thinking people. However, most people commit murder are not thinking rationally.
