injuries from car cages

Hello everyone, since graduating K9 school things have been going really well except one thing. My dog goes so nuts at, well...everything and everybody when he is in the car, that he has broken/ripped two nails from his left paw. It seems that he catches the nail on the screen that protects the inside of the window. Each incident causing an emergency trip to the vet with a bill to go with it. I have since taken two 2x4's and bolted them to the screen so he will scratch that instead and that seems to be working for now.Anybody else had issues with that?

Does he have a kong or anything in the car to take his frustration out on?

I've seen some guys swear totally against it. But personally one kong or toy has done wonders for my guy when he's amped up. And it doesn't kill his ball drive.
