Anyone w/ any knowledge of this dept. Good or Bad??? How many officers? How about the city life also???
I'm currently in the hiring phase with Raleigh PD. I do not live in Raleigh (or near it) so I can't say how good or bad the department is, but the city itself is nice, cost of living is a little higher than your average NC city, and the department itself is over 700 officers. The academy is around 6 months and is rigorous from my understanding.

Hope this helps!

Raleigh has a solid reputation, at least in my opinion. Their pay is competitive with the better paid departments in the state. I work in Charlotte, and have no plans to leave, but I would not discourage anybody from Raleigh.
Thats great to hear, thanks JNH

Just went through the academy. RPD has a great reputation and good pay. The Academy is challenging. I hope you like running and early mornings. Working in Raleigh is great. One-man units. Take home patrol cars. There is always activity, but not ones that'll kill ya. Except for every now and then and only if you are lucky enough to get em. Everyone I know is happy. BUT, not to toot my own horn, hundreds apply...only 20-30 get in. There is no apparent equation as to their methods of choosing candidates. This years Academy is young...very young while the year before is a little older. Good luck.
