OPM lists this position as a Transportation Specialist. A lot of agencies have reclassified positions such an 1854, ATF Inspector to an 1801, Industry Operations Inspector. The USSS (please do not refer to them as the SS) position you write about appears to be a technical series, probably intrusion detection for secuirty systems, or likened to that of a Technical Enforcement Officer, TFO.

 I might have some info for you about this job, I used to work with them when I was on active duty as an EOD tech. They are called TSD agents which stands for tecnical security detail. Anything else you need to know you'll need ti PM me. :D

It's actually called the "Technical Security Division" and here is the link to the USSS website regarding the position you are inquiring about:
http://www.secretservice.gov/opportunities_pss.shtml
At the bottom of that page there is also a link to send an email to a TSD recruiter, that is probably the best way to get accurate information regarding the position and the training you will go through. There are currently no vacancy announcements out for the position but you may want to ask the recruiter when they anticipate the next vacancy announcement to come out. Good luck.

The position your describing seems to be more of a "Physical Law Enforcement" position. The "Detection Systems Specialist" position I am inquiring about is a "Radar" position that observes "Air Traffic" (ie the ADIZ and other sensitive areas).
Thanks.
I know, I'm fully aware of the position you are talking about. Yes, you are correct the DSS position is not a Physical Security Specialist (PSS) position. I posted the link because they both fall under TSD and the link took you to their page on the USSS website. Maybe my wording wasn't too good in my last response. The point I was trying to make to you is the position is somewhat sensitive and it is also a relatively new position so you REALLY need to do what I suggested in my last post and that was to contact the TSD recruiting office, their email link was at the bottom of the page on the USSS/TSD website link I posted. This enables you to get the most up to date and accurate information about the position and the training you will go through.
JANGCO, no problem, I'm sure you can relate your stories through the PM system to JLHDU.

jimdvs,
I am terribly sorry, I misunderstood your post. I understand the sensitivity of the position and didn't want to give too much away other than obvious job requirements. I'll check with the TSD recruiting office tomorrow. Would this position have the same physical requirements as the PSS position? I thought it was just a technical position. I'm sure the recruitment office will have those answers. Again, thank you for your help sorry for the misunderstanding.
